Actually, if walkers are the only real threat, that is by far the smartest place to walk.

They're not though lol

When she was walking, it was really the only fear she had. The Saviors don't intend to kill her, and the likelihood of some other random dangerous group are extremely low. She is far more likely to stumble into an issue with walkers in the woods than humans on that road.

I find it annoying that a large group of people would let Negan run things like that without at least someone taking him out. Doesn't make sense, even if they are broken and brainwashed. I know its a show about unbelievable things, but that is just frustrating to watch.

Besides that, I did enjoy the episode, and I enjoy where this season is going.

all i see are narrow strips of trees and developed/planted areas other than a couple of large parks

that ain't "woods"...
you wouldnt be able to walk a 1/2 mile without hitting a neighborhood street full of houses. the setting of the show is decidedly rural, but they are nowhere near any rural areas within walking or safe driving distance. like that place rick/aaron found this past episode...where is that supposed to be? there are no heavily wooded secluded multi-acre compounds in that area

i realize they dont actually film this in DC, and its really not that important...i just think its funny that we are supposed to believe that one of the most heavily developed areas in the world is suddenly "rural"

Its actually described as 'outside' of Alexandria, Virginia.

It was designed as a safe-zone in the beginning days of the zombie outbreak for important people. I assume that it is in the "rural" area outside of Alexandria. I am guessing south or southwest of Alexandria, around one of those wooded areas. Its never explicitly stated that it was in actual pre-ZA Alexandria, VA.

i guess...

like i said its no big deal i just find it funny.
it would be stretching the definition of "outside" alexandria to be so rural

the scenes are actually filmed in senoia GA per the google, which is very much surrounded by large tracts of wooded area

There are plenty of examples in history of men holding the fears of millions in the palm of their hand.

Yeah, but not without a military force at hand, and other like-minded personnel. I haven't seen one of his "soldiers" that seem to be completely bought in to what is going on. Its just not very convincing.

Negan has an army. Maybe a very rag-tag bunch but it's an army nonetheless. Simon absolutely buys into Negan's approach. Dwight does to a certain extent or else he would just leave.

Yeah, that's true, he does.

I don't buy Dwight being bought in, especially when they've made it a fact to display his dissent for Negan.

He does have an "army" but I still don't believe that he would've gotten the thing off of the ground without getting killed by someone.

The ex-wife is the big key there. Dwight tried to leave once and it go him tracked down, his woman permanently taken and his faced burned.

I really hope they explain Negan's rise to power at some point. Would be a fascinating story imo.

Carl shot two of them and what did their great leader do to retaliate? "I like you, kid. Have a beer." He melts his soldiers' faces for having sex with the wives he stole from them. He's also an insufferable windbag that seems to arm himself with only a baseball bat (a bat he constantly hands to people that want to kill him, but that's another story). All great ways to inspire loyalty and give an air of invincibility. Maybe all this worked in the comics but I don't buy what I'm seeing.

It's amazing what the human psyche will believe if put in certain situations. Negan seems to have a core group on board with his way. That's all he really needs to keep his foot on the throat. I imagine a few beatings with Lucille is enough to break most people. It absolutely broke Rick.

Yeah. Think about what it would be like if Negan and a few guys roll up to your group of 10-20 and start acting like they do and your biggest man is pummeled to death with a barbed wire bat. I'm guessing that's something you don't just forget.

Would you let him waltz into your walled, armed-to-the-teeth compound and take all your stuff? My guess is most people wouldn't. Especially not people that have been to hell and back, including having to fight off another guy that tried to do the same thing IN A TANK.

Negan had something like 50 people at that one outpost. Rick just doesn't have the numbers and more importantly the fighters to tangle with Negan. The 3 other communities will have to get involved to even stand a chance.
