I realize I'm way behind here, but I just binged the last three episodes and am in total shock. Killing off Carl or Rick takes away the whole purpose of the show...

I'm also very disappointed with the direction Eugene is taking. It's Andrea 2.0.

I, for one, and stoked they are killing off Carl. After reading about what happened, i figured the bite would be on the arm or something setting another amputation situation.

They aren't amputating his chest.

I want to see a chick get bit on the titty.

And how they deal with it.

It would be awesome for that to happen then pan to someone like Dwight smile about it.

Of course these writers couldn't put together dark humor like this to save their lives.

They keep writing to these weird corners. The whole thing is about getting his son through to a better world and the losses Rick takes to get there. I guess they just flipped a coin after the latest core death in the comics. This could be part of winding down the show.

I believe the actor wanted off the show so that he can attend college. I don't think the showrunners had a choice unless they were going to cast another Carl.

Tell me how and when you found out this would be going on?
I found out in June when we were rehearsing for episode 6. Scott Gimple called to meet with me and my mom and my dad to talk about story stuff. And then he revealed that Carl would be dying in episode 9. It was devastating because the show has been such a big part of my life. I had gone to school and done the show and dedicated so much time and effort into the show that it was crazy that that was going to be the decision. I was so excited to do the story lines from the comics. But I guess it does make sense for Rick to kind of have to adopt this humanitarian lifestyle that Carl has an outlook on right now.

Naw he got blindsided, he was putting off college to make money.

What was your reaction when you first found out this was going down?
I honestly thought he was joking the first time he said it, because Scott has a pretty good sense of humor and we joke around a lot. So I thought he was joking. When I realized he wasn’t, it was quite the shocker, because I was really looking forward to the story arc from the comic book with another group, the Whisperers. Carl has a really, really cool interaction with one of the members of that whole group and I was super excited to do that whole story line. But in terms of typecasting and my career, it’s the best move for me. For my acting career in general, it’s definitely not going to end up being a bad thing. I’m super stoked to be doing bigger things and other things I haven’t had a chance to do before.

But damn was he looking forward to hanky-panky scenes since Enid wasn't giving it up.

I don't think they wanted to renegotiate his contract. I read somewhere that it was only a 7 year contract, and Carl is so central to the story that he could have definitely gotten a big payday. I'm betting they didn't want to do that.

This is a terrible decision and highlights other terrible decisions that have been made with this show recently.
