i would rather see a real person surrounded by real non poisonous snakes than some CGI generated poisonous snakes, but thats just me.
hell they're still carnivores and can constrict you.

True, but this is true for 99% of shows.
Viking= awesome Vikings+tits= EVEN MORE AWESOME
Mad Men = Awesome Mad Men+Tits= EVEN MORE AWESOME
Of course i think every actress in mad men is hotter than 90% of actresses on HBO because they don't have to show their tits.

..could have been shot differently old schooled with real venomous snakes. with glass to separate.
Like in Raiders of the lost Ark.
or shot with the real venomous snakes without the actor, after that have the actual actor filmed in the empty pit, then merge the two. The snakes dont have to be cgi. editing film has come a long way.

Just saw I have work in seven hours, but who needs sleep when there is vikings.

One thing that gave me pause about the fight was that after Ragnar's sword broke, they kept fighting for awhile. Then they stopped, the Earl threw down his sword and they both got axes. That seems like a hell of an advantage for the Earl to give up voluntarily.
From what I remember, the rules stated at the beginning of the fight said only two shields per person. But I don't remember them saying you had to switch from sword to axe and let you opponent re-arm.
Did anyone else catch anything about that in the rules?

Hail Ragnar.
I can't wait to see the next one. I watched the last three episodes last night. Bravo History Channel. This show has very good production.

Well, the Earl is not without honor. It would have been a tainted victory if he beat an unarmed man. It was an honor duel. If he had simply killed Ragnar, he would have lost status among the clan.

Sure, but if the man is unarmed as a result of the fight itself, that would seem to be the entire point of the battle.
