Its really an awesome series!

Seems tho that Ragnar will have to watch his back due to his brothers new found ambitions.

Cannot wait for the next expeditoon west by Ragnar and the crew!

Cus I flipping love it.

I was very surprised they killed off the main villain that early in the series.

Also, I thought they would portray Ragnard's character is more anti-establishment. ie. Not kill off servant as sacrifice, allow wife to burn boat, etc....

It seemed like he stepped in and the power went straight to his head

unfortunately the "Pit of vipers" on the show where the dude was killed..was a pit of boas and pythons. At the sizes they were, just a step above basically harmless.

when they obviously put money into the show and time..yet skip detail on things like that, and just assume the audience is too dumb to realise, it sorta bugs me.

I like it so far, and id put it to Siggy.

I was surprised, but its obvious his so called friends/family (brother) will be the main villain.

Disagree here. Ragnar is very traditional in the sense where he let the Earl have a proper funeral. Remember, the Earl went after him and his family.

I think the old guy that swears loyalty will become Ragnar's #2, making brother even more jealous.

The priest will have ongoing moral dilemmas with loyalt to his church vs loyalty to his captor. They're really pushing the theory of cultural relativity betweene the priest and the vikings.

His brother is jealous and insecure. Always wants what another man has.

he's like the Shane of Vikings.

Call me dumb then, cause I didn't even notice. When it's a pit of snakes, they could all be garden snakes and I'd still be shitting myself...even just watching it on TV. Gave me the heebie jeebies when he landed on them.

I really wanted to see bald Zach Galafinakis (thats what my roommate and i call him) fight Floki. Would have been awesome.

Siggy is hot but the actress looks like she had work done, which makes this 800's viking woman look like she has had work done. Which is odd. That being said I'd hit that.

He is anti-establishment in the sense you're trying to say. He was expected to slaughter the earl's family based on established norms.
He let them live, but didn't look weak by allowing her to do whatever it was that she wanted.
He allowed her to kill her daughter's new husband, which could very well turn into an issue later in the show. He was a powerful man with lots of land and such. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some angry Vikings out there that want to come and avenge his murder.

I don't think he was the main villain. Just a villain to establish characters before they take on the king of Northumbria. Remember Ragnar said that they would take revenge on him but they must wait.

I was kind of dissatisfied with how the Earl and the gnome died.

Ragnar needs to make Rollo earl of some other land so he won't frick everything up.

I used to study herpetology. Just things like, "what are non venomous south american snakes doing around Norway and europe..circa 793?"...just made that king look like he got ripped off when he put someone in charge of this pit of deadly snakes. was thinking if i were the guy thrown in, id just fake my death till no one was looking, and figured a way out.

In all reality, those certain snakes would have for the most part just crawled around on you..kills the "realism" of the story for me. It's like seeing the plug in the barrel of a prop gun. Knowing it's not at all a real threat, unless you have a huge phobia of snakes and no real knowledge. I know its very nitpicky, and i do enjoy the show so far.

Was there any venomous snakes in Britain then?

I thought most those snakes looked pretty harmless but that pit looks pretty impossible to get out of regardless.

Probably could have just stacked them all on top of each other..made a hill.

Some of those snakes were types of red tail boa. very common pet.

Europe isnt a huge venomous region. Only one real widespread viper in europe and it kills worms and insects. sometimes birds.

Only reason those snakes would have crawled around on him was for warmth. I bet those snakes were freezing.

Yeah I don't think he was the main villain. Just a speed bump for Ragnar. There will be plenty of villains to the west.
