I watched that when I was 15 or 16 when that came out and didn’t really get it

Rewatched it at some point again during Covid and whew that was an eye opener as I’ve grown up and have some skin in the game now

It’s one of those movies that , at the time, liberals claimed. Now, it seems to be more right leaning in that it’s anti big government.

It is actually not anti government it is anti Authoritarian government which every one should be. Liveral or Conservative any telling you how to think and what to believe is not good.

So good. I won't spoil it but it's there's an incredible cultural relevance in there too that makes it even more genius.

I will say each side sees the other in the villain.

I've always found that dichotomy fascinating.

true that. as i've gotten into my 40s, i've really become disenchanted with the party of my parents. i've become infinitely more disgusted with the other party, don't get me wrong, but i see both of them as different sides of the same coin nowadays.

After that movie, "eggy in a basket" has become a breakfast favorite.

This.

Also, I wish we would stop referring to the modern left as "liberal". Classic Liberalism is more akin to Anti Authoritarianism. Today's left is in love with authoritarianism and controlled speech.

Of course. The human brain has an incredible ability to warp reality when it comes to our flaws. In biblical terms, it's an outright refusal to remove the plank in our own eyes.

It's a great movie and it, and the book 1984, were intended to be warnings. Unfortunately there are those today who view them as manuals. I'll just leave it at that
