The combined Paramount-WBD will be called Skydance, David Ellison announces:

quote:

What once was the peak, is now just the beginning.

Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren't rewriting history — we're equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling.

We chose this name for a few important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one. Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight.

We have big goals for Skydance, and we intend to pursue them with passion, imagination and a willingness to take smart risks. At the same time, we will honor what makes Paramount and Warner Bros. special — giving both studios the opportunity to grow, tell more great stories and bring those stories to even broader audiences around the world, powered by the scale and capabilities of Skydance.

I couldn’t be more excited about what we’re going to build together.

Behind a paywall, but the report says Gunn is being asked to stay on, "at least initially"

HBO chief Casey Bloys is poised to take the reins of all of Paramount and Warner Bros. streaming operations once the two companies merge. On Tuesday, Cindy Holland announced she was stepping down from her role running Paramount+ and other direct to consumer streamers under the Paramount umbrella.

The shuffle comes as Paramount Skydance is days away from closing its hard-won $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Holland confirmed her departure in a memo to staff sent Tuesday afternoon, acknowledging that Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison has made the decision regarding streaming leadership, although she did not reference Bloys by name.

quote:

Over the past few weeks, speculation emerged that Bloys was likely to come over post merger in the top role overseeing all streaming operations. Bloys is a near 25-year veteran of HBO who has steered TV’s most prestigious brand through choppy waters and three massive corporate takeovers in eight years. There’s also speculation that JB Perrette, who now heads streaming business operations and gaming for WBD, will join Bloys in steering HBO, HBO Max and Paramount+.

What will David Ellison name his mega Hollywood studio? “Paramount Skydance Warner Bros. Discovery” obviously won’t work. So here are some potential options:

• Skydance Corporation - putting Ellison’s own company at the center

• Warner Bros. or Paramount could remain the dominant legacy name.

• Or will Ellison come up with an entirely new corporate identity for the $111 billion entertainment empire?

The choice could signal what he wants the company to prioritize: Hollywood history, the future of entertainment or his own Skydance DNA.

THR takes a look at the naming dilemma facing Ellison as the mega-merger nears its expected October close.

Paramount’s settlement with 12 state attorneys general has been approved by U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín, clearing the final remaining barrier to its Warner Bros. Discovery merger.

Paramount has tentatively set Tuesday, Oct. 6, to close the deal, per regulatory filings.

Ellison is moving quickly. I'm guessing we hear news about the WBD execs before the end of the year

SCOOP: Ynon Kriez, the outgoing Mattel C.E.O., is joining Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery in a very senior role, per two sources familiar. Ynon has told members of his board.

Paramount spokesperson could not be reached, but one insider said landing Ynon is "proof that we should never underestimate David Ellison."

Mattel has credited Kreiz with boosting its market share across key toy categories, ranking No. 1 globally in dolls, vehicles, and infant, toddler and preschool segments. Mattel also noted that Kreiz oversaw Mattel Studios’ first theatrical release, “Barbie” starring Margot Robbie, which was the top global box office film of 2023 and has stood as Warner Bros. Pictures’ highest-grossing movie of all time.

Interesting blurb here. I'm assuming he had a big hand in Masters of the Universe too

Paramount + and Max are head and shoulders above being the best in the streaming game for what I watch

This should raise some eyebrows.

If either of them had one.

Paramount+ needed this merger more than anything since Taylor Sheridan is headed to Peacock after his contract ends in 2028. Without the Sheridan-verse all they have is Star Treks.

They have an incredible catalogue of classic movies

I've never watched a second of Yellowstone or any of its spinoffs

Behind a paywall, but it apparently says Gunn is being asked to stay on, at least initially. That was always my guess. He'll be kept on for a while as ellison has a ton on his plate right now

I finally got around to watching Yellowstone and the prequels. Excellent tv.

If we can get an updated app from paramount+ instead of that wonky arse shite they have now, this merger will be worth it.

So much for MAGA-NN . Won't stop the crazies like Ruffalo from foaming at the mouth though. Ellison is more Hollywood than MAGA, by a long shot.

Keeping Gunn was always the move for now despite what tards say.

They have to take it through Man of Tomorrow and see how that goes.

If it doesn’t work out and Gunn is gone, I think they should pause on DC films for a long while. But they won’t.

It's a soap opera with more murder and about 3 characters that aren't complete shits. First two seasons were over-the-top but still good for what it was. It got cartoonish after that.

Agreed, which is good for Gunn. I expect MOT to perform well.
