Didn't see a post about this but if you grew up skating in the 80's/90's, this doc brings back some history. I only remember reading about Del Mar and Christian Hosoi (my fav) in magazines and seeing worn out VHS copies of some of these stories. Awesome documentary. And F Duane Peters still.

I recorded this a day or two ago. Haven't watched it yet, and I wasn't a skater at all, but I am interested in watching it.

I was a huge Tony Hawk fan as a kid. I found my old skateboard at my mom's the other day

A buddy of mine skated a Hawk board like that for the longest. I think it was the red version.

My first board was a red/green Vision Gator, and then a P&P Caballero with the dragon head like the sticker.

Is the Hawk doc streaming or on a channel?

Serious question, was that the title of the doc before he suffered that severe leg injury a couple of weeks ago?

Yep. Was finished last year. He has a good podcast with Jason Ellis. The title comes from Rodney Mullen.

Awesome documentary.

Can't wait to check it out this weekend. I heard it was really good.

I was born in '90 so my first big exposure to Tony Hawk were the Tony Hawk games and him landing the 900 for the first time.

I remember listening to Dr. Laura on the radio in the 90's, and her lambasting skateboarding magazines for ruining kids' childhoods. All I could think was, "Man, if I was a kid, my first stop would be the newsstand to get that magazine. My second stop would be a skateboard shop."

It was pretty good.

I wish they’d have went more in depth on the Pro Skater games. I feel like he’s more famous for those than anything else.

so odd seeing the Bones Brigade in their fifties. To be honest, it messed with me a little bit. Weird seeing these guys as older when I only recall them in their youth.

Skated on a Lance Mountain stick then McGill then a Mike Vallely.

The game was supposed to be Christian Hasoi, IIRC. They were starting the X-Games and he was supposed to be the big name on the promotion (as him and Hawk had a long history of dueling it out on the vert ramp) but he got caught with meth or something so they went with Tony as the promotion for the X-Games and made the video game about him. Or so the story goes.

ETA: I haven't kept up with pro skaters or videos in years but I do know Tony's son Riley is killing it right now. He's more of a Shake Junt/Baker product but can shred forreal. Granted Andrew Reynolds was on birdhouse and in the original Baker video and Baker 2g you can see they are skating Birdhouse "b logo" decks with baker stickers on them. Kind of all in the family how that worked out for the son (Riley who I think still rides for birdhouse but is super close to Reynolds and all the Baker and Emerica guys. (Granted, mindblowingly Reynolds and Bryan Herman stepped down from Emerica).

Very good doc. It helps that most skaters seem to want to be interviewed (and seem to be brutally honest).

I think Dogtown and Z-Boys was a more entertaining doc, but this one is highly watchable.

(frick, those guys destroyed their bodies.)

I really enjoyed the Dogtown/Z-Boys doc. That one was really good.

I watched the first hour of the Tony Hawk doc last night. The opening sequence of him trying over and over again to land the 900 was brilliant. It was so intense, you could just feel his frustration and pain. Unfortunately, the rest of the hour was a bore fest. I feel like they are spending way too much time on his early days, and interviewing these old washed up Bones dudes.

And I am a big Tony Hawk fan, read his book in middle school. Played all the video games. I used to skate in middle school, high school, and college. So I'm definitely someone who would be interested in this doc. I just hope the second hour is better when I watch it tonight.

Those old "Big Brother" mags were pretty gnarly from what I have been told.
