Underrated 80’s/90’s comedies. My submission is Dutch.

Peak Ed O’Neill playing the Everyman with a snot nosed rich kid on a road trip back from his private school. JoBeth Williams was hot as hell in this also. Like most movies in this genre during this time period it has heart and turns into a coming of age/buddy movie in the 3rd act. IMO it’s very underrated for what it is.

Cadence. From 1991.

Charlie Sheen
Martin Sheen
Larry Fishburne

Charlie Sheen is a soldier in a military prison put into an all black barrack and has to acclimate to that.

It’s excellent.

ETA: I completely missed the “comedy” request. This one is definitely not a comedy. My bad.

Good movie, not really a comedy though.

I don’t see this one as underrated, as it has stuck in popular culture.

I’d say Fear Of A Black Hat, which is a rap mockumentary along the lines of CB4, which came after it. Very good but not really remembered.

I also throw Midnight Run out there but it isn’t quite as obscure.

I liked Kuffs when I saw it in the theater. I haven't seen it since on TV or streaming and don't really hear it mentioned.

That one was a lot of fun.

Jeffery Jones being a high ranking employee of Satan is pretty goddamn funny in hindsight given what happened to him legally.

Funny Farm always gets overshadowed and outshined by Chase's other works of the era like the Lampoon movies and Caddyshack and Fletch.

I did a relatively recent rewatch and it wasn't as funny as I remember it. More pretentious and snarky than actual funny. Though it does have a cult following and is very quotable. I wouldn't call it underrated.

For a whodunnit with people trapped in a house, I'll raise you Haunted Honeymoon. Hilarious and never mentioned in great comedies of its time.

Summer Rental is another funny movie that never gets mentioned because it's arguably the least memorable of all the great John Candy movies, but is still a good comedy movie that I feel is underrated.
