i'm going to be honest.... JLC would be my 4th in this scenario.

i appreciate a good older woman, but man.... seeing PA like that hurts hard.

i'm sure it's fine movie and Pam still has it in some regards, but as a child of the 80s and 90s...

Speak for yourself.

A thread where TulaneLSU has reserved the entire first page will be extremely entertaining and also potentially informative.

She's living and breathing so she does in that regard. What she was famous, nope not anymore.

He has every right to post some reviews. I don’t think my comment was necessary. Must have been in a bad mood earlier or something.

The hepatitis? Yes

The movie is interesting but bleak. If you consider her character a stand in for PA and her career choices there's some painful self reflection mixed with the same desire to be seen as a sexual object of desire she demonstratedat 18.

The painful part is interesting. Her real children did have to deal with the way her advertising her sexuality adversely affected them. But she, and her character, seem to acknowledge but not admit the error.

My guess from the writing, characters and plot is the filmmakers are probably self defined feminists. It might have also been interesting to note more directly the modern "forms" of cabaret.

Onlyfans etc have been no functionally different and arguably worse than the older versions (Playboy or Vegas Cabaret acts) in which the veneer of respectability was more established and the graphic sexuality was generally less extreme.

That is, the desire for young women especially to be seen sexually isn't a product of patriarchy, it is an offshoot of female sexual signaling and women do this for attention and/or money whether they are in charge of distribution or someone else is doing their marketing

Does the movie sort of have the same vibe as "The Wrestler"?

You watched this piece of shite? I would rather watch a random “found footage” horror movie.

No perfect analogy really

Feels almost like an autobiography or fictionalized memoir of an aging Showgirl in an aging industry

Cliff Notes review:
The movie was good, sad and depressing all at the same time. Not too long. Well acted and well cast. It also reminded me of The Wrestler. Budget must not have been too big but that didn’t hurt it too much. Worth a watch especially at home. It chronicles an old fashioned LV “showgirl” and her life and how it has developed around the “show”.
