I like Frances McDormand a lot, and I think Meryl Streep is overrated

I agree. I think she's the best character actress of our time. For that matter, Kathy Bates is better than Streep as well.

I think both have been great, but McDormand has taken far more interesting roles.

This is so profoundly false.

There's not one single Frances Mcdormand role that Meryl Streep couldn't perform in her sleep. Not one.

Now try and imagine Frances Mcdormand in Out of Africa or The House of Spirits or how about an easy one, The Devil wears Prada.

Now don't get me wrong man, I appreciate where you're going with this so let's try this one.

Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver.

Oscars say so as well, trophy count for best actress in a leading role is 3 - 2 in favor of McDormand, though meryl has 1 in supporting role.

I'd take McDormand over Meryl any day of the week. I also think Cate Blanchett is way better.

You could have something with this.

I say true, but I also admit my perception is tainted a bit by political bias.

Her range has proven to be soooooo wide. I could easily picture Meryl Streep in Fargo.

She was working class in Silkwood and portrayed Julia Chiles.

She would've likely been better than Frances Mcdormand in Fargo.

I could say the same thing about McDormand and any Streep role too, we'll never know

They're both incredible.

I think McDormand has routinely chosen more interesting material the past 15 years, but I don't know that that means she's better actress.

I have a pretty easy time imagining most competent actresses handling this mediocre material easily.

I try not to use 'better' to describe an actor, art doesn't work that way. Of course people would bitch if I had only put more interesting though.

ETA: Despite doing it in the original post
