Definitely agree. And in the episode next week Marty is defending Rust. And I wouldn't rule out Rust going undercover, especially with the new murders. He lives for cases and since we've seen how he goes undercover with the bikers I'm sure he could go undercover with the cult, and perhaps Marty is in-the-know about it but is being tight lipped about it in front of the detectives.

Things are shown in the flashbacks that aren't talked about in the interviews, so it stands to reason the flashbacks are truth and not narratives. Like Rust and Marty with the biker gang never come up in the interview.
So by this logic he didn't have his cake and eat it too? Poor poor Marty.

He's wearing the exact same striped shirt he had on when they found Dora (see my sig pic). Am I supposed to believe that he took off that shirt and put on the black shirt for the dinner, then put back on his work shirt before he went to bed in the living room that night?

What are the odds of Daddario becoming a victim of the cult/killings??

I think you are to believe that the dinner was not on the same night they found the body.
I feel like you are the only person that thinks the dinner was that day.
ETA: My mind is officially fricked. I need to rewatch everything and take notes. This thread has me so confused I don't even remember who acts in this show.

Would be crazy! I wouldn't be bothered by it as long as it doesn't turn into the following where you're asking yourself who's in the cult now? If they do kill her it would have to be because they are getting too close to the killer and he kills her off as a frick you to Marty.

I think the writer is leaving this ambiguous on purpose. Rust says Jan 3, 1995, the day they found Dora, also his daughter's birthday, which drove him to drink.

I don't even know what you are talking about. The day they found Dora Lange, Marty invited Rust for dinner, Rust gets drunk, goes to dinner.

That's what I did last night on this episode...for three hours. Help me.

She's not on the cast list for anymore episodes of this season.

Bro, The day they found the body and examined the crime scene is the day Marty asked Rust to come to dinner. They did not actually have dinner that very night. it was some time later during the investigation and obviously before Marty was kicked out.

There's nothing ambiguous about the dinner. I thought it was fairly obivous it was the night they found Dora.

But Marty is wearing a black shirt at the dinner. Then wakes up with the same work shirt on the next morning? That's what's getting me.

Are you talking about the night he slept in the recliner? Because that wasn't the same night they had dinner.

This right here.

Exactly, Marty even tells the two detectives that the dinner happen sometime after he asked Rust.

There's a reason half of the posters here think the dinner was the same night and the other half think it was some time later. Writers frickin' witcha'.

My understanding of timeline of events
Day 1
1. They find Lange
2. Marty invites Rust
3. Rust turns down offer
4. Marty sleeps in recliner
Sometime after Day 1, maybe 2, maybe weeks
5. Rust meets skanks
Not real sure about sequencing here. 5&6 could be flipped
6. Rust shows up at Marty's for dinner

Doesn't really matter when he says it is if he's being deceptive. Rust basically says same day. Jan 3, 1995.
