quote:Yeah, I took a Nietzsche class and...holy shite, some of the most pretentious and unpleasant people.
As for those claiming south louisiana folk do not philosophize like rust....must've never had a conversation with those douchey Stubbs Hall liberal arts fellas.
It's like...you're a 19-year-old philosophy major.
In what world are you better or wiser than everyone else?

It's possible he's still undercover. Remember he said there's no expiration date on the deep cover gig and his files are still largely sealed.
Would his files still be sealed if he wasn't with some type of law enforcement agency?

Did anyone notice that Marty(while narrating about self control and boundaries) runs over a little pink bike when he pulls up to his mistress's apartment when she brought the guy home? Rust's daughter got ran over by a car while riding her bike, right?
May not mean anything but its just a thought.

yea he smashed right over it
also after the scene at the apartment, back in current time, he looks down at his left hand to no wedding ring there.

Something is gonna happen with Marty's oldest daughter. Between her sexually explicit drawings and the gangbang scene with the dolls...too much smoke for there not to be a fire

it was also weird how rust was kinda staring at her for a moment when he was at the house after mowing. she gave him a weird look too

Yeah I noticed that, but I kind of dismissed it TBH. Uncomfortable eye contact happens and at this point Cohle doesn't know about her recent behaviors.

I'm beginning to think more and more that rust is trying to find out what the detectives know and try to solve the case himself...
This is also jives with his eying the file folder left on the table when the two officers leave the room when Cohle is waxing poetic on some atheist shite.

I just assumed he was thinking of his kid

This show just keeps on rolling. another great episode
I was cracking up at the bar scene... Marty was SOOO frickin obvious, it was hilarious
when he pulled up to his side pieces apartment I was expecting his wife to be shown in the ca like "DUDE IM RIGHT frickING HERE"
and I lost it when that guy said "just a little.."

Wow, another freaking clue...
Spaghetti Monster was chasing her in the woods, right?

The lawn guy and his weird work schedule is interesting to me. Also, Light The Way school should be revisited soon.

Plus he's a big dude. Can't tell on the mower, but in BWE, he towered over everybody as George Remus. Damn good actor, I'd say.
What's with the BWE and Wire actors?
I'm halfway expecting Chalky White to show up as some ex-con talking about Dora Lange's sweet jelly.

Nice find, seems possible. Sometimes I want to know "what's next", but between you guys and what you find on reddit, there is no mystery left if you guys keep looking for it
Also, for people talking about "only 5 episodes left"... relax. That's 5 hours to tell the story and solve the new murder(s). Movies can do it in 2.
This show is really good. Love the intro. I agree with some of the posts on here about MM's diatribes, but it's not necessarily "unrealistic". The pace is perfect. There is some terrible acting
, but that's ok since the main characters are killing it, especially MM.
The Tuttle connection will undoubtedly play a major role now that we have met one of them, have talked with Eli who went to a Tuttle school, the school getting it's grass cut, etc.
I think the Reggie angle sounds plausible. Marty will shoot him and the case will be closed. MM never thinks they caught the right guy. It will come back to Tuttle in some way.

This is the only source I read regarding the show. I hope no one brings spoilers from outside sources into these threads.

Yeah I thought that earlier. There's over half of the series left. Plenty of time to bring it all together.

I do expect this line of thought to branch out. I'd be surprised if it was just given as a distraction.

As others have mentioned, there are likely a few red herrings, but I can't see the Tuttle theme being one.

Could be. I'm not in law enforcement, but the best I can gather from his files still being redacted is there's still something going on in one or more of the cases he was working. In other words, there's still a reason to keep it under wraps.
I think the idea that he's deep undercover is a long shot (at this point, I'd suspect he gained notoriety with the Dorie Lange bust ("hero shot") and could never really work undercover after that)...but it is possible and something that had occurred to me as well.
