On my phone so don't have the pic but in the episode 4 preview on you tube they show a weathered looking picture of Reggie ledoux and it looks almost exactly like the sketch of the green eared spaghetti monster. IMHO

Can we post interesting things we learned by watching "making of" videos for true detective on HBO? I'm talking stuff that HBO has put out themselves as promotional? or would pointing those things out be considered spoilers?

"Girls" & "Looking" both have early views on HBOGO.
Why can't True Detective get this!!!

In the first ep Rust says it's his day off so he's drinking beer.
If it's his day off, what's his current job?

We don't know that yet. All we know is that he is off the grid, lives in the country behind a bar and is alone.

Didn't he say he worked at a bar that he lived next to or something to that effect?

I either missed that or don't remember

I only remember him saying he works 4 nights a week.

Would be wild if he was working as a part time PI for marty's private firm...or if he was in deep cover on a narcotics gig.

I think nothing is ever as it seems, to quote rust. I think Rust is the deeply religious and Marty is the hypocrite. Rust protests too much. Opposite of love is apathy. He's anything but apathetic of religion. Marty hides behind it.
Rust either is full of shite, or wrestling with his demons in search of closure. Marty feels that god can't see your wrongdoings in the light of day. Their lives are veils and the face they wear is not their own.
As for those claiming south louisiana folk do not philosophize like rust....must've never had a conversation with those douchey Stubbs Hall liberal arts fellas.

He said he lives out in the country behind a bar. He works four nights a week and on his off days he drinks. He's found out who he is and their is a victory in that.

I'm beginning to think more and more that rust is trying to find out what the detectives know and try to solve the case himself...MM said in an interview that his character always needed a case to keep him from losing his site completely..well 17 years later he has given in and gone off the rails and off the grid...perhaps a new case would be just what the doctor ordered to find himself again

You aren't too far off with this.

Saw this today and thought it summed up well the basic problem of Rust's philosophy, or at least his attitude toward it:

It's possible he's still undercover. Remember he said there's no expiration date on the deep cover gig and his files are still largely sealed.
