It's possible. He doesn't seem like a man who's gone insane to me though, as much as a man who's withdrawn from the world.

This world is a vale and that face you wear is NOT your own!

I think it's going to happen in this Sunday's episode because I looked a the E3 promo and it showed them there.

Great line. Amazing writing in this show. The AV club reviewer wrote that the philosophizing smacks of dorm room stuff, but I simply have to disagree.

I finally got a chamce to watch the first two episodes last night, and when Daddario got nekkid, the only thing I could think of was, " The movie board just had a collective jizzfest." I was a bit surprised by the level of nudity she displayed. Obviously, it has everyone talking about her, but I thought the Percy Jackson movies bought her enough cred that she wouldn't have to go to those lengths.
ETA - ...but I thank her for it. Easily the mythical OT 10.

However, the vastly different settings on which they are being interviewed is peculiar. The detectives would typically bring you in for a taped statement with a video setup like that. What is the significance if the differences in setting? Do they just live in different towns now, or is there something more to it?
I'm pretty sure this is incorrect. Both interviews (IMO) are done from the same interview room. However, I do think there is something significant with them being done from certain angles.
If you notice the boxes and computers behind MM are the same as the ones behind Old Blacky during WH's.

are you sure about this?
I thought Marty's interview was at his station, and it looks like Rust's interview takes place at the new detective's station...

Just some random thoughts/wild arse guesses. Does anyone think the impending fallout between Hart and Chole may be over Hart's side piece and not his wife? Seems like that way she talked about the need to find a decent man and Hart's immediate anger over that may be a foreshadow. Makes sense that she could eventually engage with Chole, the younger more attractive single guy and fall in love thus pissing off Hart? Anyone think that?
a couple of other observations…Overall I think the writing is good and the character development is in full view. I think McConoughy is knocking it out of the park…some of his lines in the pilot when he is spouting off existential crap at random just seem over the top and don't match with someone who really has been through all of that stuff he has been through, but those were minor. He is the reason to watch this show. I think Woody's role could be done by anyone at this point. Most all of the minor characters are great casting so far. I hope they avoid being preachy in future episodes and just tell a great story…It seems to me this whole show is about WorldView—how our upbringing/experiences shape how we see and interpret the world. I like the theme.
Its going to be interesting to see how the mystery plays out but as others have said, I believe this one is less about solving the mystery and more about how what these men have seen and experienced has effected their respective world views

Another possible "occult" connection

Cthulhu?
quote:
In "The Call of Cthulhu", H. P. Lovecraft describes the Cthulhu as "A monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind."[5] Cthulhu has been described as a mix between a giant human, an octopus, and a dragon, and is depicted as being hundreds of meters tall, with human-looking arms and legs and a pair of rudimentary wings on its back.[5] Cthulhu's head is depicted as similar to the entirety of a giant octopus, with an unknown number of tentacles surrounding its supposed mouth. Cthulhu is described as being able to change the shape of its body at will, extending and retracting limbs and tentacles as it sees fit.
quote:
H. P. Lovecraft's initial short story, "The Call of Cthulhu", was published in Weird Tales in 1928 and established the character as a malevolent entity hibernating within an underwater city in the South Pacific called R'lyeh. The imprisoned Cthulhu is apparently the source of constant anxiety for mankind at a subconscious level, and also the subject of worship by a number of human religions (located several places worldwide, including New Zealand, Greenland, Louisiana, and the Chinese mountains) and other Lovecraftian monsters (called Deep Ones[6] and Mi-Go[7]). The short story asserts the premise that, while currently trapped, Cthulhu will eventually return. His worshippers chant "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" ("In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.")[5]
quote:
According to Derleth's scheme, "Great Cthulhu is one of the Water Beings" and was engaged in an age-old arch-rivalry with a designated Air elemental, Hastur the Unspeakable, described as Cthulhu's "half-brother".[13]

My first guess was a Druid or something similar. It looked plant like to me.
