Who exactly were they?
a Mexican gang...?

How long had they been working for Tony?

I think that is pretty obvious. Seems like they were the ones that were taking over the drug running through the clubs and casino now.

But that's my point...we know very little about them. Very little. And they obviously had a strong control somewhere in the city with powerful ties

The Mexicans appeared to be sincerely upset with the burning of the club and their loss of income. Seemed like they were satisfied with the million as fair compensation.
The confrontation over the suit seemed contrived.

Did we really need to know more about them?
We know they were a Mexican gang working for the Mayors son and they were taking over the drug running in Vinci.
They were just part of the cog, just like the real estate guy, the Russians, the mayor, the police chief, etc.

This happens more than we care to admit....maybe not to this scale....but in real life, the 'bad guys' win all the time.

Did y'all not see the fricking grave? Who do y'all think the grave was for?
VV knew he was dead and he wasn't going to go out like that, as he said earlier in the episode. He had too much pride to die without his clothes.

That's certainly a valid explantion. However the entire series presented him as the ultimate pragmatist. He had to know he wasn't going to win that fight in the desert. His wife was waiting for him. Frank wouldn't have just tossed his life away.

Is it understood that the Armenians sold Frank out to the Mexicans?
If that is the case, makes the kidnapping scene more believable.
Still have to think Frank would have been smarter about the exchange with the Armenians. Or just not paid them at all.

The look between the two as Frank drove away could be interpreted that way. Unless the Mexicans were tailing him I find it hard to believe they just stumbled upon him as he was driving.

Well based on the other unbelievable BS that happened in the show, it would't surprise me.
Ray not being able to draw his gun/bumbling with the video recorder in the heat of the moment and then suddenly turning into an Ace Assasin taking out 3 special ops guys?
Whatever. That ending sucked arse.
Too many characters. That's the bottom line.

This entire season boils down to just a bunch of dead assholes.

I believe the Armanians sold out Frank.
The two guys gave each other that obilagtory soap opera stare when Frank left..

I don't believe that it was the Mexican gang that killed Frank. It was the Mayor's son. The picture above is him becoming the new mayor.

Yeah I thought this was a given.

Frank had to know better.
Why would he even pay the Armenians at that point. I know he's an "honorable" gangster but with the passing of the torch, he would know they would sell him out.

It was a given for sure...But why did they sell him out?
I thought Frank was very generous to them

The scene with Frank in the desert was a microcosm of the entire season 2. Events happen just to have events happen.
They may have taken Frank out there to kill him but I am convinced they were going to leave him alive after taking his money. Otherwise why walk back to their vehicles as if they were leaving? Who were they trying to fool? If they were going to kill Frank after they took his money it would have been a straight forward shot to the head and be done with him. They were leaving. Frank believed they were leaving.
With regards to a grave I have to be honest I watch shows like this in the most superficial way. I didn't notice a grave. But I'll accept there was a grave at the site. Why go through the effort of digging a grave for Frank and then leave him on the ground after fatally stabbing him?
