Then sleazy mayor setup suspensed Mcadams who somehow still was allowed to raid in her cute little outfit
Do you people listen?
Her boss told her she can't come back in the office but she can stay on investigating the murder because it's a state investigation
And for those asking why they were going to raid the Mexicans, one of the dudes was pawning off some of Caspers jewelry and shite
I mean, I don't think this season has been great either and it's a little all over the place but the shite y'all are asking questions about makes me wonder if you're even watching

For me the mayor(and his family) is the most comically bad character on the show.

That's what I'm saying
People seem just to watch and pick it apart just to bitch
Exactly the same people who watch all the fast and furious movies then say it's shite

This season is terrible. The gunfight was intense and an interesting piece of filmmaking, but this plot is absurd. A lot of the acting is comically bad. Lear Lynn showing up with a solo electric guitar every episode while VV and CF talk is like a Greek chorus.
I am not entertained. I'll be surprised if HBO green lights a third season.

Yeah they need to walk away and not risk a shitty 3rd season
The name has already been tarnished

What plot is absurd? Christ people don't even pay attention.
They went to investigate the hideout of the guy who was pawning off Casper's shite. As soon as they got there, the entire top floor was blown to bits. That doesn't strike you as some obvious shite was going on there they had to immediately hide?
I'll admit this part of the season has been slow to develop, but damn shite's finally going somewhere and everyone bitches about a gun fight.
I don't know why I even come in this thread anymore. It's not worth reading at this point.

i thought it was a cook house
if there is some intricate conspiracy, i doubt they leave it up to some vatos running a sweat shop for asian immigrants on the first floor

you do realize "getting somewhere" means they just check pawn shops, right?

exactly? what plot? it isn't being developed and it's the only thing that possibly is a positive this season
also this isn't popular but i think VV is fine in his role. i guess people want a ganster more like the mayor (who people also hate)?

Can we just agree that looks aside, Rachel McAdams is an awful actress and a miscast for the role.
I laugh every time she's in a fight. All she does it shout "frick" or like last week "stop motherfricker". Lol
It's really comical

Completely agree with this. Don't understand people destroying the guy.

I like VV and Ferrell. It should have just been a show about their two characters. The gay and the horrible actress are overkill and not needed

well I'm pretty sure McAdams family is going to be important to the story, with her Dad connected to the psychiatrist and her sister in the porn/whore stuff
as for Kitsch...yeah he is terrible

I was so hoping that he would catch a bullet in the head last night. But I knew as soon as the episode opened and he had a confirmed gay experience he was in for the long haul. No way HBO misses out on cramming him down our throat with the message that he is gay and should just accept it and be happy instead of being miserable trying to fit into society's norm - note his marriage proposal to a women who doesn't really love him so they can raise a child.
Parenthood is a big theme of this show too. VV talking about kids like they are a death sentence.

The show sucks. Period. A show should waste an episode or 2 -- not 4. Therefor, the season will suck. It's trite and Los Angeles's darksides and cops have already been covered in movies like To Live and Die in L.A. and Heat. The cop characters bring nothing fresh to film. Nothing.
The bar scenes with Farrell and VV are silly. Vince Vaughn sounds like he's supposed to be hanging out with Will Robinson in Lost in Space.
Glad Ray Donovan is back on. I loved loved loved last season, but sorry -- 4 episodes and you suck 98 percent of the time = done. I'll watch again in a year or so and see if we're all just nuts and perhaps this is great TV.

you can't really blame the actors in this one. other than VV they are doing the best they can with the material. I don't think Rachel McAdams is doing a bad job I just don't think her character is well written. The writer should have picked between her character and Kitsch's and eliminated one.
The dad talk between Colin Farrel and Taylor Kitsch last night was so out of place because the characters had barely spoken to each other before much less formed any kind of trust....
HBO should insist on Nick Pizzaloato hiring a team of writers if they do this again.

and his character is retarded (both the actual character and in terms of the overall story). it's just a waste of screen time that could be used on the actual plot
hell i thought in the shootout we were going to see his usefulness and finally justify his character...and he gave us a tease, then disappeared

It sucks that they've tried to make every character Rust Cohle. Every single main character is a flawed, brooding caricature. Hell, even the drunken Vinci mayor is portrayed as some deep chess master. At least in Season 1 Marty was able to cut the tension every now and then.

in season 1 every character was normal except rust. sure people were flawed, but they were normal in their flaws
but yes. they're trying to make everyone into these pensive, negative, brooding creatures that suck the life out of any enjoyment because there is no foil to their schtick. add in the fact that they are trying to double the development (by doubling the characters to develop) and you just aren't left with much of a story
hence, why the crime was "solved" in the normal course of any random investigation. there was no "true detectiving" going on like in season 1

Do you think Fukunaga had that much of an effect on S1 or did Pizzolatto just go overboard trying to top S1?

i didn't forget which season this is
this season is a jumbled mess with really terrible writing and over-done acting. it has good cinematography and underneath the shite show that is the surface, you could probably mold an interesting story. the biggest issue is trying to have a story and 4 character stories while trying to have the characters interact, adapt to the story, and develop.
the story is severely neglected because of the issues with the characters
Agree. The premise of this seasons story is actually pretty cool but the execution has been awful. The dialogue is garbage. Too many main characters, some of the other characters are awful.
The writing was bad at times during season 1(although nowhere near as bad as this) but MM and harrelson were able to cover it up. This season has really exposed the deficiencies in NP's writing.

this show has been terrible so far. The acting is half as good as season 1 and the writing has been stagnant to say the least. The characters lack any real sense of "true detective" (if that makes sense?).
