Does anyone know the location of the bar where Rust is working?
I'm usually pretty good at recognizing the locations, but I can't place this one.

I would say so. It hasn't been a nice and neat first 7 episodes, why expect anything different with the resolution.
It is about the journey, not the destination.

Just rewatched it. Great episode. I noticed the grass being cut in a circle last night. That is exactly how I cut mine. Hopefully im not in carcosa.

It wouldn't surprise me if one or both of them passed away in their last stand in Carcosa. Neither of them seem to have much else to live for at this point.
When Marty visited Maggie at her new house, she asked him if he was saying goodbye. Maybe that is foreshadowing Ep 8. We know there is going to be a shoot out, as we see the bar owner there.
The above ground graves where Errol is mowing, has to be "the place in the woods with stones where the men go to meet."
more thoughts to come...

Each season is completely different. Different writers, different plot, different actors
Everything is correct but the "different writers" part. As someone else pointed out, it's the same writer. In fact, only one writer, the same writer. So far, he says he likes to work by himself.
Too lazy to link - again - but there is a good Rolling Stone article on the writer and that's where you also find out the other facts you've listed.

I don't know man, I wouldn't put her to bed quite yet.

"What I think ... Rust will NOT be breathing by the time final credits roll ... For a non-religious man who keeps a cruxifix in his apatment ... he's going to be the "Savior" / sacrificial lamb... in the opening credits... the imagery... Marty's face is superimposed over images of the highway / concrete... dense/cold/hard-headed...
Rust is shown with the burning cane-field... so hes the sacrifice?... the avenging angel burning both wheat & chaff??? ... and as he said - he lacks the courage for suicide... so he has no regards for his own life - but he's probably willing to sacrifice his own?... of course it will be CONTRARY to what we want (to save one of the Hart-girls)... probably he'll die saving Marty!
The whole thing with the images...
After the fight - in the Capt's office...Rust sitting in profile right side of face - not marked... he turns .. left side all bloody / scarred... clean/dirty good/evil
the tail-light... to symbolize the "break" between Marty-Rust... that hasn't been fixed in 10 yrs...(BUT it STILL WORKS)...
So Batman & Robin... Lone Ranger-Tonto get back together to "take down" the bad guys...
look we're still broken but can work together to get to the end."

That whole scene was weird. Was it mentioned how often Marty sees his daughters? I know they're both in their mid 20s by 2012 but it didn't seem like they were close at all. And Maggie was completely detached. Something is off with her; and I know some posters in here keep on saying "stop talking about Maggie, she's not involved, why are you even caring about her behavior"...but you can't help but notice how different she is and how this case has affected Rust, Marty and Maggie. Marty has changed a lot. He lived in his own fantasy world back in 1995 all the way through 2002; he had the wife, the 2 children/perfect family, nice home, but we all know that was just surface level and something that he didn't work hard towards/was serial cheating on Maggie and not emotionally available for his wife and daughters. There is something sad about him/remorseful in 2012/that he's finally woken up to what really matters. He's willing to put aside his past and differences with Rust to take down those who are responsible/find some justice. Episode 8 is going to end with a bang.
And this is my 9000th post.

Yeah I think your dad is probably right, and I think that's Rust on the table in the preview.

Not necessarily, Marty didn't watch the entire video. But yea, its probably dead.

or maybe not tell him. nobody want's a bat-shite crazy rambo partner diving face-first into pure hell.
although i'd say yeah he didn't see her, but hell who knows where this is going?

Probably, but he would have known that Marty would have come unhinged had he told him. I dont think its the case, but at this point im not ruling anything out.

That's something that never sat right with me: you asking me to lie to you about him.
IF Marty's daughter were on that film (or another tape), I don't think there's any way in the world Rust would have shown it to him. As ruthless as Rust is with POSs, he's shown himself to be quite empathetic towards victims.

Will the new season still be set in Louisiana?
Posted on 3/3/14 at 10:27 am to Putty
After watching the preview again. I believe it is rust on the boxspring. He went alone and was caught by the scarred man. Marty is gonna get fricking hostile trying to find rust but willing be too late. Marty is going to break the case to the news about the tuttle family and reconcile with his daughters.

I haven't heard anything, but based on his previous work, I would imagine somewhere in the South. Texas and Louisiana seem like ripe targets, but I would say the South in general would be open.

I thought this referred to her always asking him about Marty cheating.
This was a great episode. My flight back from China was delayed a bit, but got to watch at 11 last night. My comments/questions:
Why would maggie go see Rust? And she kept asking a lot of questions to Marty about what he knew and why he was helping. She is acting sketchy. I don't know if it will play out that she is involved, but there are definitely some clues that point to her. And with the doll scene set up like that, their daughter has been exposed to a similar ritual to what is seen in the video, but they/we may never know for a fact. The way the she-male described what happened to him, she may not even know that it really happened. I believe that this will circle back to to the detective's curse.
Also, Rust fairly clearly stated that he wants to do this last thing and die, but I think it is possible that Marty will be the one paying the ultimate price because this is noir and characters rarely get what they want in this genre. And "nothing is ever solved" so we will see some closure as far as people involved being killed, but the audience will know that these horrible things will continue (This can also be read as saying that SFP will be right in a kind of way, but in a good way). Humanity is fighting the inevitable, but what is inevitable will always occur. Bad men will always do bad things and other bad men will continue to try to stop them to save "good" people.
And the poster's dad from earlier was spot on with the dichotomy imagery. The balance of good vs evil as internal conflicts is as important as, if not more than, external conflicts.
ETA: and apparently I missed my 10,000 post some time last week...
