just look at the prediction thread, if you dare. they're discussing the "shocking reveal" next episode
I'll pass.

but their expectations are something bigger. something more shocking and/or meaningful to the plot
But just because they want that to happen doesn't mean they will be disappointed if it doesn't, or dislike the show because of it. Half the fun of shows is trying to figure shite out...the problem is that with the internet it's so fricking easy to find endless amounts of information about it so that your mind goes in a hundred different directions and it breeds incoherent expectations (or predictions, as it were).
But you're taking people's discussion of a show and trying to "be right" or prove them wrong about something, when in reality they're just hoping for wild shite.
Not to mention that if it's Marty's daughter, that can't really get more centraol/meaningful to the plot. I mean shite, he's only the main character.
quote:
i'll use another one: the tuttle stuff
my expectations were that we'd see something new/fresh with this story archetype...but it's the same ole "white religious people are really hooded evil people" theme. i WANTED to see a new spin on this story. we had so much working to avoid the "Same ole" stuff.
You keep saying you wanted a new spin on it. First of all, you still don't know what's up with it. But let's ignore that and pretend you're right about that...what do you want? It's not interesting if the church group is just a church group. If the church group is involved and are evil, you are disappointed. If they are involved and it's all supernatural, you're disappointed. If they are involved and it's all mysterious and littered with symbolism, you're disappointed.
That's my point. You can't be pleased.

if i thought there was no hope, i'd just quit watching (like i did with Lost)
Well that's clearly not true. You'd obviously watch solely to point out how right you were and how bad the show is (kinda like you're already doing).
You've already admitted to catching up on Lost so you could watch it in real time and shite on it to everybody.

Not going to bother reading the thread if it's full of a bunch of people pissing and moaning because they won't be shocked enough if there aren't crazy twists at the end.
It's great tv, a great story, and I'm pumped to see what Rust has been up to in these past 10 years and learn more about the scarred man.

SFP is like TigerMyth, only instead of hating everything a little, he overly hates everything a ton...and loves to tell you how much he does.

it seems like kind of a double standard

i agree...but they're expecting the fantastical. that isn't enough. that's why i brought it up

but this assumes a church has to be involved (in episode 1, tuttle was nothing more than a name who drops in for 1 scene)
i didn't want religion involved just like i didn't want magic involved (a small faction was pushing the "voodoo" angle early on and they were quickly dismissed in the threads like i was dismissing religion...they were not criticized, thankfully)

Did anyone else think Tuttle dropping the "as soon as we get the school voucher program we will start the schools again" line was subtle frick you to Jindal/conservative supporters of that plan?
Yup, I mentioned it earlier in this thread. Not sure many people outside of Louisiana would get this.

that's b/c my roommate told me what was going on in lost and i had a multi-year battle with rmcc going on

see if i wanted to just hate something popular to hate it, i'd pick walking dead. i just gave up once it got shitty and pay it no mind
i want true detective to be good...well at this point end well
i get riled up in shows like this b/c i had hopes/expectations and they were not me.
i enjoy plenty of shows. even non-perfect ones like breaking bad or justified.

Nah, it's not.
Guessing at the show and then still being able to enjoy it if you're wrong (or right) is one thing. That is not what you are doing.

But in a show this short, you know that very little will be "throwaway." And very little has so far.

BTW, I now see why these threads jump 300 fricking pages in an afternoon.

FWIW, from the preview it looks like the dead-cat preacher's aunt or someone like that is going to be in the next episode...maybe bringing Santaria back into the mix

Yeah, I noticed that too.

i guess the best way to describe it is b/c the things i was worried about aren't just things that involve guessing plot points. the things i mentioned are plot points that i identified early on that worried me.
it's not about being "right". it's identifying ways the story would unfold that jacob would not enjoy (for whatever reason). other people expressed similar worries. but they have accepted them (which they are allowed to do).
