You and Andy Greenwald giving each other rusty trombones slow? What a debbie downer. And there is nothing wrong with a "reveal" if done right. It isnt inherently lazy.

worry that it won't be satisfying in terms of the story itself. it's a police/detective/investigation story, so there has to be a reveal. i'm really worried that there is going to be a shock reveal at the end
rust's soliloquy last night made me sad. it was like a blatant example of how the show is about more style than substance. it's whatever, but this is exactly what i was worried about discussing episode 1 and rust (i just didn't fully conceptualize it at that time).
we shall see
We get it

he didn't exactly push to give the case to the task force, though. IF he is part of the cult, this argument would make sense to explain why he'd want to control the case.
Marty was more than willing to give it up to the task force, FWIR. It was Cohle who had gotten new info and wanted more time.

that theory doesn't make any sense
if he's part of the cult and wanted to ditch the investigation, he had ample opportunity to and refused
if he's part of the cult and wanted to control the investigation, he had ample opportunity to steer it away from ledoux and refused. ignoring the whole "compound" issue, all he had to do is refuse to partake in an incredibly illegal plan with the bikers

i think the grandpa shite needs to be put to rest
I agree. I just don't see it, nor do I see how the show could effectively explore that angle with the time we've got left.
Now, the daughter is definitely involved, either directly or indirectly. IMO, her exposure to the cult has yet to come, despite the drawings and Barbie scene. I believe those are the things Marty is referencing when he says that all of the clues were right under his nose, but it doesn't mean she is in the cult up to this point.

Guy with Grantland TV podcast who doesnt like true detective. Hollywood Prospectus podcast, i recommend it. I generally agree with the guy but he has a stick up his arse about TD.

Interesting little tidbit: When Rust comes back out with the AK, he tells Marty "F*ck him. Good to see you commit to something."

I don't have any reason to suspect that it will be a happy, or even satisfying, ending. Satisfying in terms of the "right outcome." I believe everything will be resolved, but one or a number of key offenders will walk.
Based on NPs interviews, I'd agree. Cohle's lecture on life not being solved is another hint at this.

Yes. This was significant. Bookmark it, Rust is already dead. Marty's interview is two weeks later.
something keeps telling me that the interviews happen a good time apart.

And why do they have o? Cause they're often assaulted by men.

i don't see a way that he wouldn't be killed, but that's somewhat nit picky
i don't either which is why I'm asking. Last i saw he was on the floorboard of Rust's truck. Wasn't sure if Marty and Rust greased him as he was no longer needed. Just a loose end I was curious about.

Greenwald has a stick up his arse because he missed judged this show from the jump. Everysince then he's found any kind of way to nitpick about shite in TD.

No it wasn't. That was from the '95 timeline.
Exactly what I am saying. That was not a scene that was ever meant to be shown later. When we saw that, it was in "real time" as far as the look back into 1995 went. It was just to introduce Reggie's compound to us, and the monster that lived there.

I also liked when he told Marty later in the episode, Ledoux deserved to die. Makes me think there is more vigilante justice to come.

I think they killed Ledoux near Choupique. Every episode they're getting closer to my house.

it hasn't jumped the shark (other than rust, which is whatever at this point), yet

Yeah he thought it was just a serial killer story from the jump, which it isnt.

I felt like Rust's line "What that's, Nietzche? Shut the frick up" was a nod to SFP
