Does anyone have any theories about what the swirling, glowing, blue, black vortex was?
It was one of Rus' hallucinations. All those circular vortex type wreths (sp) deals brought it on.

No idea.
Frustrated by that too.
Why even put it in there.
I think the director posts on Tigerdroppings and knew this, among many other things, would spark endless debate.
Its probably SlowFloPro.

Per someone on reddit..errol was mimicking a movie on tv. North by northwest

Why was Errol speaking sophisticated british near the beginning of the episode?
I think for two reasons. One to show he isn't as ignorant as he acts. Two. He is theatrical. Yellow king stories/plays. Just the connection I drew
Carcosa was the nightmare maze in the fort. At least his interpretation of it.

It's been addressed in a few episodes.

lmao at all you idiots being wrong with your predictions then getting pissed at the show because you were wrong
literally the only thing y'all were right about was rust not realizing it was Errol because he was sitting down on the mower when they met him

I enjoyed the show but still....
how does a careful investigator like cohle miss this suspect?
At the end rust and cohle are talking, when cohle tells rust that he remembered the guy on the lawn mower from 95 at tuttle's school. He said his face was dirty (couldnt see scars) and he was sitting on the mower (couldn't see how tall he was).
Okay.
But later cohle finds those sculpture things at that same school on another visit after returning from Beaumont.
He should have been on him, especially since that was an abandoned.
Whathappened to the powerful big men, the yellow king, corrupt police altering files, anti-Christian task force angles?

Seriously, I just spent an hour reading all these theories and predictions from respectable people and sites...they werent even close....and I love it.

I love the "they should have done [insert prediction I've pumped for 2 weeks] instead, would've been so much better" posts
Posted on 3/9/14 at 11:39 pm to tiger2012
Why? Because he was mowing the grass? That was his only connection to that place.
Powerful men = Tuttles
Corrupt police = Childress
Anti-Christian task force ?????? Don't know what you're talking about

That would not have necessarily pointed to Errol though, bc that school was run by Tuttle before being shut down. I agree that he should have looked into him more after seeing it but he missed it, it was right under his nose.

well to be fair, there is so much not explained and left out, some theories could be true. marty's daughter, for instance
Posted on 3/9/14 at 11:43 pm to SlowFlowPro
I think something like his daughter being exposed to it would be important enough to actually put in the show.

i'd imagine the cult would be important enough to actually be put in the show, but that was left out

Questions
1. What's up with the rape scene by Marty's daughter and the picture she made on the wall? The grandfather angle seems open ended?
2. Who were the identity of the girls being switched in the Tuttle school pictures?
3. The suicide in the prison? One Childress was a guard and the other the Sheriff but who made the call?
4. They know there is at least one, maybe more killers still alive. Does this even matter because Rust has seen the light?
5. Could the True Detective Series really come back in full circle and answer these questions? I wonder if this is why Nic Z is leaving the door open to a possible return of Rust and Mart?

I guess it seems like a lot of people are complaining about this not getting fleshed out. It doesn't bother me. The unsolved mysteries add intrigue to the story. It leaves you somewhat discombobulated as to what exactly is going on. Most importantly to me it set the scene in which they were acting. It was the ubiquitous darkness of corruption and terror that the light is fighting against.
Of course there is a desire for full resolution. We couldn't get that without destroying the setting that had been built up the entire series. There was just enough resolution for it not to be a rip off for me. Others may feel differently.

Not reading the whole thread. Finale was a huge letdown. Literally dozens of things left unexplained. Too many red herring, a sign of poor writing in my opinion.
