This movie looks like its going to be fricking amazing. Screw Avatar, this is what 3-D films should be like. I've never been to a midnight showing, but I think I'll make an exception for this.

I haven't either, and this tempts me to go rent it. Its just Tron from what I've heard aged pretty horribly and was made a decade or two too early. But this is what Tron has needed, and it deserved a remake or a reboot than pretty much any other film made in the past 30 years.

Yeah, the music in that trailer just brought it to a whole new level of awesomeness.

I have the 25th Anniversary DVD here at the house...I definitely need to pop it in the DVD player and refresh my memory. But this new film looks incredible.

I gave Avatar ***/****. I was just sick of people saying that it was going to suck long before it came out and there was confirmation on it. Incredible special effects, ok story, and really over relied on clique characters (The corporate guy may be the worst character I've ever seen).

But this looks to put that to shame and have a hell of a better and more original storyline.

Speak for yourself young'n. Loved Tron when I was a kid, but I promise it wouldn't hold up by today's standards you whippersnapper.

BTW...how much are the marketing people going to love saying "...starring Oscar winner Jeff Bridges." Nice little timing bonus for Disney.

Holy Shiznit Batman, that looks great.

Have no idea if it will be great but it sure looked pretty.

The original tron was cool, but I imagine people watching it today might not like it as the effect are definitely dated. At the time they looked cool.

And nothing beats Discs of Tron in the Booth style arcade game.

I have the 20th Anniversary Edition. Did they make a 25th as well?

I watch it maybe every month or two. I can honestly say TRON is responsible for me taking an interest in computers as a hobby, then a means to a scholarship, and now a job.

I know that sounds silly but it's true. I saw TRON when I was like 4 or 5 and was just amazed by it. I immediately started bugging my parents for a computer and then once they bought that I went to the library and checked out any book on programming I could get my hands on.

Words can't express how hyped up I am for this movie. I'm hoping Harry Knowles can arrange for an advanced screening here in Austin. I've had pretty good luck getting into them when he does.

Always heard about Tron but never really found out what it is about...

Can anyone give me a quick rundown about it?

TIA

It's to early in the morning and I haven't had any coffee/caffeine yet so I'm not even going to try to summarize it.

Here here's a quick synopsis from IMDB

quote:

Kevin Flynn is a former employee of the software corporation ENCOM, now running a arcade. Flynn has been trying to hack into ENCOM's mainframe computer to find evidence that ENCOM's senior executive Ed Dillinger stole four video games he created. But Dillinger's supercomputer "Master Control Program" foils Flynn's efforts and dictates and controls most of the computer systems. One night, Flynn's former girlfriend Lora and her boyfriend, ace computer programmer Alan Bradley helps Flynn break into ENCOM to shut down the MCP with Alan's security program "TRON". But MCP uses Lora's matter transmission program and converts Flynn into data and sends him into the computer. Flynn finds himself in a electronic world ruled by the MCP and his evil chief henchman Sark, where computer programs are the alter-egos of their creators and are forced to compete in gladiatorial games. With help from Tron, a heroic and fearless security program and his lover, Yori, Flynn sets out destroy the MCP and help Tron liberate the system from the MCP's control, by destroying the MCP is Flynn's only way of returning to the real world.

The movie came out in 1982, so the special effects don't really stand up to today's standards but when it was released it had almost Avatar like hype about the look and style of it.
