When Bad Boys III gets released, that will be the answer

Arguably, the "Man With No Name" trilogy may be the only one.
This and the Toy Story trilogy. An argument for Lord of the Rings and Bourne can be made, but other than that, none.

I don't know how all you guys remember the Toy Story movies. I've seen them all, but I couldn't tell you what happens in the 2nd or 3rd one if my life depended on it
No telling how many times I've watched the original, I semi group up in the same time frame that the movies progressed in.
I've watched the 3rd one twice, once was maybe a month ago so it's fresh.
I remember nothing about 2 except that the chick was introduced. That's why I say they MAYBE have gotten better

LotR is a complete trilogy. I think fellowship is the best but there isn't a clear cut progression. You can't say unequivocally that return > fellowship
Agreed. Fellowship is my favorite of the three, but its kinda biased since I didn't know literally anything about the film walking in. All I knew is it had a wizard and it was fantasy. Had no clue it was a trilogy, and was expecting a super anticlimactic end, with Mount Doom being just across the river, and then the film just ends. I was pissed for about 2 seconds, and then realized it was a trilogy, which made me ecstatic. Still without question my greatest cinematic experience, RotK midnight premiere not being far behind.

They're all pretty different and each entry gets much darker than the predecessor.

Batman went from great to good through the course of the trilogy.
No dice on the Scream trilogy or Godfather.

The Godfather
TROLOL
The Dark Knight was way better than Rises
I would say the Blade movies, Mad Max, and the original Star Wars trilogy.

Back to the Future. The third one was my favorite, although the second was the worst of the three.

No one has mentioned the dollars trilogy...thought that would get some votes
Posted on 5/5/13 at 1:16 pm to DelU249
I mentioned it. It's also known as The Man with No Name trilogy.

I think a case could be made for the Bourne Trilogy. The first one (Identity) was good, but the next two (Supremacy/Ultimatum) are arguably better.

The first three James Bond movies (Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger) arguably each get better. Of course that isn't a trilogy b/c the franchise kept going.
Man With No Name/Dollars trilogy is also a possibility.
I think a fair number of franchises have improved from the first to second, but then the third often disappoints. (Nolan's Batman, X-Men, Spider-Man, original Star Wars).

I got the winner!
Mighty Ducks
Mighty Ducks 2
Mighty Ducks 3
Each one just kept getting better. No word on MD4.

Negative on TLotR.
TTT > TFotR > TRotK
TTT > TFotR > TRotK

Any others I'm missing?
If you watch the Matrix in reverse.
Arguably Star Wars got better with Empire, but certainly dipped with Jedi, regardless.
Ditto for Terminator - T2 is favorite for some, while others like the original (and I'm torn) - but 3 and beyond just got worse and worse.
The 3rd chapter is often a turning point - Rocky III was a dip from the first 2, while Godfather III was off the cliff from the first 2 - neither of those were true trilogies (also true for the Terminator "series), but the first 2 chapters told a two-part story - of sorts.
That is, to a certain degree true of Alien as well - the first 2 stories have a noticeable connection, although not a tight, two-part story, but it gets more and more disjointed as it goes along (and gets worse and worse in the process) and adds more unoriginal sequels.
Back the Future was the most tightly woven trilogy, well-thought out pure film trilogy - in my estimation (I say that having never seen The Dark Knight start to finish, and only snippets of The Dark Knight Rises).
The first 3 Bourne films were woven together fairly well (but in both cases, I prefer the first chapter, so these don't answer your question, either). I'm not sure Bourne is a true trilogy - although it's borderline.

Mad Max
I like the movies, but they're separate films - only the character continues on, really. AND like many of these, second chapter was probably the best.
