It amazes me that you frickers call yourselves Star Wars fans.
That’s kind of the point.
It’s not that a woman is in charge. No one has a problem with that.
Guy does a plan that gets many killed in spite of completing the goal: “He is brash and foolish and needs to step in line”
Girl has plan that gets many killed and arguably doesn’t complete the goal because it was one of trying to escape and save manpower: “Oh so brave and strong.”
SPOILERS
When the girl crashed Finns pod away, I wanted everyone of the Resistance to die. In a pique of selfishness, she undermined a legitimate act, which also breaking the fourth wall would have been a superb narrative arc for his character.
Nope, instead you set up a scenario where Luke Skywalker has to step in and eventually die to help salvage the mess.
“But she was so strong, wasn’t she?”

Amidala was the first to organize a resistance to the galactic senate (who later became the empire).
That was the Trade Federation, who said "screw the Senate, we're doing shite our way". Amidala appealed to the Senate for help. And when it appeared she wouldn't get the help she wanted, she made a political move to supplant the current legitimate Chancellor (one who supported her), with someone else that she expected to be more favorable to her, the Senator from her homeworld.
By Episode 2 and through 3, she WAS a Senator. The "resistance to the Senate" was the Separatists.
