When I first started the show I didn't even know it was a book series.

Rickon's only stupid mistake was being too small to care for himself.

And not zig-zagging

Bran not listening to the 3-eyed raven dude, got the raven and Hodor killed.

the starks pretty much started the entire war. so many decisions that had they not been such imbeciles, the whole war could have been avoided.

Yeah. In an infinite universe maybe there's a book where that happens. But nobody read that book.

Jon is actually fairly different from Ned. He doesn't have a strict honor code and makes decisions that aren't always popular or honorable but are the right decisions. He takes risks and isn't afraid to call people out on their shite. He can see the big picture, unlike Dany, Cersei, etc.

You do realize Rob, John, Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon are children/teenagers? And in what world is stupidity not a flaw?

Stupidity is a flaw. By flawed hero I took it you meant anti-hero. Moral ambiguity.

John isn't a stark and he isn't marked by extreme stupidity.

Meh. I see it as pretty strict. He just uses judgment and discretion better than Ned, Robb or Cat. All made bad long-term decisions based on misguided sense of honor (mostly Ned), or purely due to impulsiveness (Robb and Cat).

The contrast among the boys is obvious - Robb displayed many of the worst traits of both parents, and fewer of their strengths (although he could have exceeded Ned if he'd lived, IMHO - just need more seasoning). Jon, on the other hand, exhibits more of their respective strengths (despite being the child of neither), and fewer weaknesses.

Same thing for Sansa and Arya - at least early. Sansa is maturing into a proper lady with a head on her shoulders (perhaps a future Olenna Tyrell, but for the North). Arya's rage finally seems a little slated with news of her family's survival.

Of the survivors, Arya is the embodiment of the Wolf, Jon is the embodiment of Winter, and I'm not sure where Sansa shakes out. Neither Northerner or Southerner - perhaps she will be a better, more idealized version of her mother.

^ this. Once one lands behind him all he had to do was turn his head around occasionally and see which direction ramsay was shooting

Matrilineally, he is. Plus he was (almost) raised a Stark.

Cat was a fricking moron to believe LF's lie that Tyrion would arm a bum with a Valyrian Steel dagger after betting against his brother and only friend in a tournament. I can't think of a less likely thing for Tyrion to do.

Her name is stark and the kids have her defective genetic material

But yeah the tullys have an impressive resumé (look at her sister) but they're not as crucial to the story
