there were rumors of a season focusing on capone, rothstein, lansky, luciano, etc.

You know, with the foundation already lain, this could be a heck of a sequel series in its own right. Rothstein won't have very long. Capone takes us up through the war, Luciano up until Kennedy and then Lansky can be telling the tale to somebody at the end.

But it wouldn't have the story density of Boardwalk Empire - you'd have to do it kind of Citizen Kane pace style - each season an "era" rather than a year or two.

(Maybe that's the plan? )

Showtime somehow gets ahold of some great ideas but then goes on to demonstrates that they have no idea what they are doing.

I jumped ship a couple episodes ago. It's laughably awful, and not in a fun way.

HBO has had a pretty strong organized crime show presence since the beginning of the original programming. I doubt BE is the last of the genre. It has such a wide appeal, and there are big name producers/directors willing to lend their muscle to making it work.

Agreed, shows that I liked in the beginning quickly became forgettable [Weeds & Californcation come to mind].

Dont forget all the little people on the M/TV board when you've got Alexandra Daddario's boobs flopping in your face for real.

You and I have different definitions of "awesome."

To keep on with this thread, I am getting ready to start Deadwood. Hope it doesn't disappoint..I've heard good things about it.

Because they let an artist named Terence Winter run with a little pilot program and gave him absolute control. That show was The Sopranos and we had never seen anything like it on TV before. Everything since then that has gobbled up countless accolades and awards is modelled off that show and that man's production philosophy.

HBO blazed the trail

Has no one mentioned the fact that HBO is owned by WB and so has the resources to do whatever they want, while AMC is a tiny cable network with sister networks that are only WeTv, IFC, and Sundance with smaller resources? That's probably the reason why HBO has better programming.

Hes been talking about it for a while.

I even made a Stewie Griffin "How that screenplay coming along, the one you've been working on for several years?" joke awhile back.
