Song of the South should be on this list.
I'd call that a live-action kids' movie with animated segments.
And, outside of one song, not very good.

are ya'll basing the ratings on animation quality alone? or story? both?
Never seen Spirited Away. Does it beat you over the head with it's message the way Mononoke does?

Spirited Away is brilliant and is more of a commentary of the resilience of the human condition, but it’s not as “preachy” as Mononoke is.
Now Mononoke is extremely smart with its message and one of the most nuanced animated films ever. It’s not like Avatar (James Cameron’s Blue Man Group not Airbender) where Nature is Pure Good and Mankind is Pure Evil.
Princess Mononoke presents nature as it actually is: brutal, uncompromising, vicious, yet also innocent, beautiful, and naive. It also presents humanity as it actually is: cunning, greedy, short sighted, and decisive, yet unlike nature protects the weaker among their ranks and is capable of true kindness. San and Eboshi both completely embody nature and humanity respectively as a whole in human form, strengths and flaws alike.
In the end both nature and mankind destroy each other but there is a way for one to learn from one another and live together in harmony. Avatar completely misses the point of this and just banishes all of humanity from Pandora. Yea the sequel has now been made, but the actual logical next move by humanity would have been to bring back a nuke and nuke the tree from space. All Jake logically did was doom the Na’vi. The Na’vi don’t know humanity’s capabilities, but Jake does, and he’s an idiot.

It was mentioned in one or two of these lists, but the 1940 Pinocchio has always stood out to me for the sheer glory of the animation; even more so when you realize it was all done by hand.

I feel like this is a great breakdown of why Princess Mononoke is such a fantastic movie. To simplify the movie into being overly preachy as others have stated (and where the other person is asking about) feels like it is an attempt to invalidate an opinion that differs from their own.

Avatar was cartoon characters in a live action movie.
Miyazaki movies are real characters in a cartoon movie.
Avatar was like a 3 year old's take on good vs evil. I don't know how that movie made any money at all.
Nausicaa blew me away decades ago due to how evenly all characters were presented. Sure there were bad guys in a sense but as the movie progressed you saw their perspective and watched as they evolved.
Kinda how I felt about Al Swearingen in the first 3 episodes of Deadwood.
A sign of intelligent writing is creating nuanced characters that draw you in regardless of who's side you're on.

I do think that the Analyzing Evil YouTube channel should just have a video analyzing the evil of Princess Mononoke as a whole, because Lady Eboshi, San, Jigo, the Wolf and Boar Gods, and Lord Asano give you a lot to work with.
Ashitaka is the one of goodness in the world seeking to make sure that they all don’t kill each other, but none of those forces or people I’ve listed above are willing to do it. Ashitaka is the only one in the tale seeking peace, and I think it would be worth an evaluation on why basically everyone else in the story isn’t and why it ends in tragedy for everyone.

If we're going that direction, Enchanted deserves some votes.
