If it's well done quality remake/reboot with basically Maverick/ Cruise in a smaller Viper type roll id maybe be interested.

Have the fighter pilots being passed over for drones and then make the story-line focus on them competing with drone capabilities on an important mission. I don't personally think fighter pilots are becoming obsolete, but it's not out of the question, to an extent, in the next 20-30 years.

And Iceman will be an overweight washout has been, because that's basically Val Kilmer anyway and there's not much more you can do with him as an actor these days

Maverick finally comes out of the closet. Making Top Gun 2 even gayer that the original.

Yeah time can be a depressing bitch. For someone who was a pre-pubescent age boy when top gun first came out, this reality is quite disturbing.

They basically started world war 3 at the beginning of top gun so I'd imagine top gun 2 is about training pilots after a America has been nuked a few times

Aging gracefully is a thing of the past.

ETA: And then I saw the Charlie picture.

Drop a little weight, color the hair, new dentures, get some sun and she's right back in the game.

It's gonna be an "old school" fighters vs drones movie

according to a poster on another board thats in showbiz, it will "address modern warfare" and Maverick will take on drones/unmanned aircrafts in some capacity

There's a reason why things that are buried in the past should stay there.

I think they should have had the movie ready for 2016, on the 30th anniversary. Instead, Tom Cruise wastes his time with these obscure Sci-fi/fantasy sequels that nobody remembers.

I'm still trying to figure out why a carrier was deployed without a fighter squadron apparently so they had to go get the Topgum class to solve the crisis.

Oh wait, that typo would make a good title

Why can't they just make an original Fighter Pilot movie. Why does everything have to be tied to an old franchise via remake or sequel or whatever

Because the Hollywood studios don't want to take the financial risk of a new movie. They know that it is unoriginal, but it's the safest way to make a profit.

All of these reboots have a built in fan base. Also, there is no reason to invest a lot in writing a story. And they can borrow a lot of the script from the original.

Takes less time and money to produce, and they already know that people will go see it, even if it isn't amazing.
