The bigger problem is that he spun a 3 wood backwards off the green after it nearly goes in.
+1
Thats is the biggest problem with the ending

Molly does have a point. Do you remember who won the British Open the year Jean Vandvelde performed his travesty?
Plus, it wasn't about winning. Roy wasn't playing for the trophy.

He should have used his 7 iron. That is his best club.

Nope.

They should have made the green more of a false front. It looks as though it spins back. It shouldn't have rolled that far back. In fact, it should have rolled out more on the green past the pin.
Regardless, great movie.

01:43:36 What's he doing?
01:43:39 He's going to try to ricochet off the toilet with a hooded 7-iron.
01:43:43 He's hitting off the shitter.
01:43:45 I can't believe he's doing this.

Well, he proved all the people, such as yourself, wrong by finally nailing it with a 12.

Either way it is very unrealistic. No way does a 3 wood roll backwards on a green from 250 yards out. So basically any put on that green from above the hole that goes past the hole rolls into the water?
Posted on 8/29/13 at 9:56 am to RedHawk
regardless if it spun or not, if the green woiuldn't hold a 3 wood any thing shorter would surely roll back into the water as well. illegal pin placement
Posted on 8/29/13 at 10:04 am to Tiger Ryno
The green isn't severe, and its a 5iron or less. That's my issue with it

Fun fact you probably already knew. The lake didnt exist and was added specifically for the movie. Wonder if the membership was pissed?

For the tenth time, Roy wasn't playing for the trophy.

Yup. Roy did something spectacular outside the rules of the game.

I don't think the ending was terrible, but what exactly was he playing for if it wasn't to win? To beat David Simms, who was leading?
Maybe after he put two in the water he wasn't playing to win, but he certainly was before
