because they found an actor they wanted to play that role? If race was a key part of the character it wouldn't work, but since it isn't, they can choose whoever they want
Well, you’re wrong, so there’s that.

The character is described in detail numerous times. He’s white.
You realize the lady that wrote the character is making the show as well right? If she says he can be black, then he can be black

He isn’t though. His character is described in detail. A lot. A lot a lot.
It’s an essential part of his identity. It doesn’t matter if Hermione has her race changed. She is never described as such and it’s not an essential part of her identity.
That is the difference.
It’s also a massive mistake. If brings substantial racial implications to an antagonist that is completely unnecessary. It makes James Potter not just a flawed kid that bullied someone but RACIST. And his son hating him too means Harry is RACIST. And of course the “angry black man” motif.
There are very few characters that should not be black more than Snape.

It’s pretty amazing. I see you comment the same drivel in every thread where the film makers have an agenda to change the race of a character to fit what they want it to be rather than staying faithful to the source. I can’t imagine how big of a pretentious douche bag you must be in person.

The source is JK Rowling. She is working on the show
yeah sorry that I don't see skin color as a defining characteristic. it's just pigmentation. they weren't gonna find one with the exact same look as Rickman

I don’t see this happening . . .
Have to be floating this for other reasons. There are so many other characters you can change races on - this one is not one of them.

No, the source are the books themselves, which have already established his personality and exactly how he looked. Just because Rowling is a producer on the show, which still doesn’t guarantee that she makes creative decisions, makes the change necessary or right

how can you not recognize that the books, the movies, and the show are all different things?
Posted on 12/4/24 at 9:56 pm to Corinthians420
Are you being this dense on purpose? The movie and the TV show can’t exist without the book. To argue that all 3 are completely different things is absurd. They obviously want to create their own magical world and put it into an already established property, facts be damned. I wonder why you shill this hard on this topic? I assume it’s because you’re a ****

He’s extremely dishonest so don’t take what he says seriously,

Was there any doubt they wouldn’t do

Dude. Jk Rowling is involved. Yes they want to do a new take on the Harry potter story.
If you want the exact same story they did 20 years ago, go watch the movies, they aren't hard to find. What would be the point of making a new show and keeping everything the same?

how does Snape's skin color affect the storytelling at all?
It’s only mentioned in basically every chapter Snape is in that he has pale and extremely blotchy skin. But you’re a Woke commie a-hole who is just out to destroy and butcher everything people enjoy, so frick off.

and if you changed this what would happen differently in the story? would they not stop voldemort? would harry not be as good a seeker? would sirius black not come back in book 3? i don't understand how changing a physical description affects the story.
what if Snape was shorter? does making him shorter change the story too? what if he has green eyes instead of black? is the whole thing ruined?
you can just admit you don't want them to change the actor to a black guy because you prefer white actors. you don't have to pretend like it's because it's a key plot element in the books with huge ramifications if they change it.

I wonder how big an aneurism you had watching Game of Thrones when the meals served at the dinner table weren't exactly the same as the ones GRRM spent 3 pages describing down to the dish
