Also keep in mind Sony has significant say in Spiderman's creative. He is their cash cow, they aren't going to let Marvel ruin him like they have done with their own characters.

Classic ad hominem deflection because you can't explain why Disney lost $1 billion marketing to people that have zero interest in their movies

Yeah Sony has done a fantastic job with their movies. I trust them not to screw up Spiderman.

Maybe, but perhaps that "two heads are better than one" saying applies as Sony has NOT done well with their own Spider-Man properties outside of those that actually feature Spider-Man.

Morbius
Madame Web
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (though in its defense it grossed pretty well considering the pandemic still had some influence)

These are not great movies by any stretch, and two were pretty substantial flops. Sony hasn't exactly produced a "winning formula" for their own movies.

I can't figure out if Sony is too stupid or Marvel/Disney is preventing it from happening. Use any of those characters (Morbius, Madame Web, Venom, Carnage) in a Spider-Man movie and it's successful.

I don't care about Madame Web without Spider-Man in the story. I don't really care about a solo Morbius movie, but put him in a movie with Spidey or the Midnight Sons and I'm in. Venom can be successful on his own but I'd rather his story be connected to Spider-Man.

Sony is just making movies so they don’t lose the rights to the characters. They don’t care about quality

They can spout "superhero fatigue" all they want, when the reality is that it's shitty superheroes that are only there because of the racist arse guidelines they use.

who’s being left out because of racist?

Iron Man and captain Matvel Retired

XMen probably need a minute to breath after Fox put out 11 mediocre movies

they’re doing FF.

Who are the great superhero’s they’re leaving in the shelf?

The first Venom did ok. The Spiderverse movies were both huge hits. I'm thinking Sony might be worried about the affect bad Spiderman movies might have on sales of the video games. Morbius, Madame Webb, and Kraven are all minor characters. They were gonna have a tough time succeeding even if the movies were good.

There's nothing wrong with supporting characters. Some characters can't carry their own title in the comics and movies aren't any different.

Makes total sense when the MCU's future success hinges on Deadpool and Wolverine killing it at the box office......

Also, think of it this way. It's not all entirely who they are leaving on the bench but also who they are choosing to play that's causing this "fatigue".

The most popular Marvel characters of all time - the X-men. Or maybe some others out of the thousands of Marvel characters that exist. Instead, they chose Ms. Marvel, who's had multiple canceled runs to the point where they've already killed her off. They chose Iron Heart, who's chronically at the bottom of sales charts for comics.

Iron Man and captain Marvel Retired

Iron man - replaced by a character with chronically unsold and unread comics. Captain Marvel - I'm assuming you mean Captain America, who should've been replaced by Bucky but was changed so we could be lectured on how we should be less racist.

X-Men probably need a minute to breath after Fox put out 11 mediocre movies

The X-Men (along with the FF) are the among the most famous characters in comic history. They don't need to breathe. They'd print money if done correctly.

quote:

they’re doing FF

Now, after losing billions from promoting characters that no one likes. They acquired their rights 5 years ago.

So you are cool with the ex Russian assassin being the new Captain America over the Louisianan helping veterans through volunteer work? I got that right?

Captain America is an LSU fan now in canon. We're not changing him for the commie

It's not who they are leaving out, it's who they are choosing to replace, and/or not replace.

They could have just taken a break done some small stuff and recasted some characters and done a separate Avengers storyline. Or they could do X-Men/FF.

Or they could do the plethora of great characters they are leaving behind. They had some trust built in.

On the big screen:
Daredevil
Punisher
Nova
Namor
Wonder Man
Black Bolt (yeah we can forget the TV show)
Ghost Rider
Blade (we're waiting)

So many tied to the X-Men though.

They could have done great things with the TV shows supplementing the movies like Loki.

They should have used the tvs shows for a couple of years as a buildup to a big movie. Greed

Scrap them, give us good Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Spider-Man movies and the "fatigue" is non existent.

This. With the completion of the Infinity Saga, they should have stepped away from that entire era and transitioned to X-Men and Fantastic Four.

Ehhhno that would have been stupid from a business standpoint alone but ignoring that, you would have had so many stories just left on the table.

The problem was that they didn’t really take a beat after Endgame even though Covid gave them the perfect opportunity to step back and properly plan everything. They went with the quantity approach which never works using characters that no one was really interested in, with weak stories - not to mention all the DEI nonsense that I have no desire to even go into.

There is still a demand for great superhero content out there and contrary to what some may say, there is no real superhero fatigue. They can’t just mail it in and coast on their name/reputation anymore.
