I was discussing this movie with my wife and she said she got the impression that Felix took Oliver on the surprise trip to see his parents as a sign that he was on to his lies. Is that the impression you got? It's obvious that Felix eventually figured it out, so Oliver killed him, but I wasn't sure if the trip was supposed to be a "see, I'm on to your shite" gesture.
I think he was trying to get Oliver out of the house without hurting his feelings. I don't think he was on to him at that point.

I think Felix was trying to do a good thing for Oliver and his mom. He was fairly self centered, but he was generous and guileless.

Well he said he spoke to his mom when she called Oliver’s phone. We don’t know how that conversation went. It may have aroused his suspicion if she seemed like a normal concerned mom and not the monster Oliver made her out to be.

You're right I forgot he talked to her.

I do not think the trailers accurately preview the movie effectively.
The trailer is a complete 180 from the actual movie. Kind of annoying imo.
Movie was good but it felt like they tried to hard for shock value and the end was rushed.
I was hoping the butler was going to come in at the end and murder him while he was dancing naked

Seems to me like Felix and his sister had some very incestuous tendencies.
Overall, the acting was great and the cinematography but the shock value aspects were all completely unnecessary as others have said.
The ending felt rushed and quite unrealistic, especially the way he murdered Elsbeth.
The director said that Oliver did not plan on killing everyone and taking over the castle, but he kept getting into situations where things would just continuously get out of control and that makes sense.
And I don't think Felix took Oliver to his parents house because he suspected anything. The shock on his face as the truth was revealed made it obvious that he had no clue. But after that, he could never respect or trust Oliver again.
What I don't understand is why Felix let Fairleigh bully Oliver around. Unless it amused Felix.
I think Oliver didn't kill Farleigh because he felt a kinship to him as an outsider but Farleigh was such an obnoxious prick.
I feel like they did a good job even early of showing that Oliver looked a bit older than all the other Oxford students and obviously intentional.

You have to keep in mind Oliver is an unreliable narrator and a pathological liar. He may think of himself as this devious mastermind and replay it in his head that he engineered everything. It is also possible that he is just a weasel who lucked into the situation.
Felix and Venetia's relationship kind of reminds me of Sebastian and Catherine from Cruel Intentions. They are bored rich kids who might lust for each other but also seem to be in a competition using people as props.
If I remember right Elspeth told Oliver when she first met him that Venetia was going to be all over him. Looking back even the creepy friend he first made warned him that Felix would grow bored of him. It really seems like it was a ritual of Felix to bring people to Saltburn.

I never got any incestuous vibes from them, although it was weird that they seemed to be very comfortable being naked in each other's presence. Felix and Venetia were full-blood siblings whereas Sebastian and Katherine were only related by marriage.

Sounds like artsy Hollywood trash

Golden Globes made a joke that the naked guy at the end had a massive dong.
Are we talking John Holmes like? WTF?

I mean, I don’t think so. Still, he has enough to work with that he probably volunteers to get naked every chance he can get.
I just read an interview with the director and she said Oliver is not going to have a happy ending. She didn’t say for sure what his fate is but she points out that at least two people, Duncan the butler and Fareleigh, know what he’s done so whether there revenge be explicit or not, Oliver has some sort of bad fate coming his way even if it’s just him becoming a pariah

Does everyone agree that the father actually just died of natural causes 14 years after the fact, and this was the one thing that Oliver didn’t have control over that he needed to set his plan up?
I thought the ideas for how he set up Fairleigh and killed Felix were believable enough, but we got no real explanation of how the mother was medically incapacitated.
Also the explanation for the sister was pretty flimsy.

No doubt, and plays into Oliver having no real clue what he is doing other than being a “moth”

I don’t think that’s necessary. I mean, he could just be slowly poisoning her. She could have had an “accident at some point for something. Doesn’t really matter. As soon as she recommended him come visit, she was dead.

I disagree. She loved Felix. That was the center of her world. With him gone, she was lost. We already know she was bulimic so she already had some level of mental health issues

I agree with the sister being suicidal and depressed.
The fact that he is portrayed as a tactician for putting razor blades next to the bathtub doesn’t make sense. I fully agree she would have OD’ed or killed herself on her own.
And I agree with your point about the father. Oliver isn’t a pure moth but much more of one than he thinks.
