Some of it has to do with the fact that she is professionally referred to by her first name only instead of Zendaya Coleman. Lends a certain pretentiousness to a mid-level actress being billed as an all-timer. A lot of people see through that and how she has been manufactured as a star. All-timers are usually referred to by last name or full name. Marlon Brando wasn’t billed as Marlon. John Wayne wasn’t billed as John. If anything, last names were most common for all timers if they were unique and rolled off the tongue. McQueen, Pacino, Cruise, Gable, DeNiro, etc.. Jimmy Stewart wasn’t Jimmy or Stewart in billings. To common and not unique so he got the full name billing. Zendaya Coleman was just annointed Zendaya as if she was some A Lister way to early. It’s just kind of fake and I think many people hold that against her.

She's called Zendaya because she thought it sounded cool as just the one word moniker. It's not some industry conspiracy, she goes by that screen name because it's literally her name. Does she need to use her last name for you to figure out who she is? Were you confusing her with the other Zendaya?

She has grown on me in the Spider Man francbise but she is like Common for me where I don't see the motivation to cast her

Can’t blame her for running with it if that’s what most people recognize her as. And as you said, it’s her name so it’s not like she is some poser

Whether people her like her or not, she is massively popular. The Drama and Challengers are making single digit millions without her. Or they're straight to streaming. I understand it's hard to credit her for the success of Spider-Man, but she's a proven boost to box office.

There are virtually no actresses that bring people to the box office. I don't think anyone has ever made an argument.

Challengers brought in 98 million, The Drama 105 million (on a 28 million budget), and Malcom and Marie was a 2.5 million black and white micro budget film for netflix that wasn't even in theatres.

Indong deny her popularity but I dont agree that she makes people get out to the theaters. Then again, I am not in the 18-35 market either

What? You think Krypto, the dog from the Super Flop movies, could be the second lead over Zendaya? Superman made 619 million. Super Girl made 126 million. Both colossal failures. Spider-Man: No Way Home made 1.92 billion. Brand New Day has made 1.67 billion thus far, smoothly on the way to over 2 billion at the box office. Your Krypto argument is just dumb. Four billion in box office says Zendaya is pretty popular. I know you people don't like to acknowledge it. But she's number two on the marquee, Spider-Man's girlfriend, Tom Holland's wife, and the two of them bring people to the theater.

People went to The Drama, a small, weirdo relationship movie, because of her. We know people did not go for Robert Pattinson, a lesson Mubi found out when people didn't go see his small, weirdo relationship movie from last year, Die My Love.

I'm assuming you don't know what a micro budget release is. It was put in a handful of theatres (during the pandemic) and a week later released on Netflix.
