Season 2 gets a lot of shite bc it’s different. But it all started to click for me around season 3

The cool thing around here is to say that S2 is great, but it's by far the worst. I could see an argument for it being better than the final season but after a couple rewatches over the years, it's always my least favorite.

When I say worst though, I mean worst but better than %90 of anything else ever produced The worst season of The Wire is not a bad thing, one of them has to be the worst.

Each season focuses on a different aspect of the drug trade and corruption in Baltimore. S1 the streets, S2 the docks, S3 the politicians, S4 the schools, and S5 is the media. So they all do a similar refocus, but Season 2 feels the most jarring because it’s the first time it shifts and is the hardest shift

And all along McNulty going off the rails and banging chicks.

I’ve been trying to get through this series for 15 years. It just isn’t for me. Sorry board.

I’ve been in middle of season 4 for about 4-5 years now.

I actually liked season 2 a bunch though, and yet somehow most show fans don’t seem to like that one.

You know what , I’m actually on vacation. I’m gonna finish season 4 and 5 this week.

I'll give season two a chance, but I'm hoping the pace picks up a bit.

If you dont like season 1 you should just stop.

However, your taste should be evaluated.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to dislike season 1. It’s second least favorite and I found it a slog to get through the first half or so of the season.

Still my favorite series ever

The Wire as a work of art is one of the greatest things man has ever produced.

Season 2 is the best season.

The first time I watched it I thought it was my least favorite season. The more I watched season 2 is a masterpiece. I still think 4 is the best season though

If Snot Boogie story doesnt draw you in, watch a different show.
No one is forcing you.

To The Wire lovers like myself, 5 is always my least favorite.
But the others might change on the rewatch

If you'd been part of the monthly threads related to The Wire on this board some 15 years ago, you'd remember that season 2 was considered the GOAT by most of this board.

I do a re-watch every year. The wife bought me the DVD boxset for Christmas in 2008, and I still listen to the CD that was included - on occasion.

It's not up to me to say that something is the greatest, but it's definitely my favorite series of all time. This is a series that really requires a re-watch and even multiple times to understand the depth of so many characters. I have a different favorite season after every re-watch. Hell, I'm probably the only one that also loves season 5. A lot of people dislike season 4 with the schools, but it's probably my favorite overall.

I'll also add that The Wire basically replaced Oz in the HBO lineup at the time and I was so disappointed in the first episode that I turned if off. Fast forward to a random Wednesday night in 2004 and I stop on HBO sometime during season 3 and become completely hooked after 20 minutes. I immediately update my Netflix ( dvd by mail ) que to add The Wire to the top. I blow through the first 2 seasons and it's been my favorite ever since.

Not season 1.

A lot of the direction is horrible as it tries too hard to force "creative" camera angles. Later seasons figured it out but season one is kinda pretentious with the way it's shot.
