The last time I watched this it was probably 2011 or 2012. I'd mentioned it to my wife yesterday while driving through Plantersville, Mississippi. It also crosses my mind whenever I have to go to a project site in Loranger. I decided to look it up and watch it with her on Prime last night.

Holy. Sh*t. It was more a sh*tshow than I remembered. When you thought things couldn't get any worse it would get worse. I remember thinking it was hilarious but watching it now it's more sad than anything else. Really entertaining watch either way.

I caught it 15 years ago on one of the pay channels when I was up leaving for work. I recorded it and we watched it that night. So entertaining. Im not sure there could be a more fricked up situation than that one.

I remember binging it with my hand on the remote to change it but I never did. It's like a car wreck...I couldn't look away

Truly an incredible film

eta: my family is from (and I spent several years in) a very backwoods, poverty stricken area. no stoplights in the county, average household income below 40k, families of bank robbers like in the town, militias, etc.

i know A LOT of down on their luck PWT but these people take it to a completely different level.

Same boat... just watched it 3 weeks ago, for the first time since it came out.

I still loved it, but damn, watching it as a parent now was a lot more difficult.

Still lost it when they saw Tanner at the drive through. And the Boone Co. mating call.

Great doc. The taco bell drive thru scene was cringe. They took her baby.

Way down in West Virginia,
There are some people who are one of a kind.
They don't need nothin' from nobody,
'Cause they're already doin' fine.
You got Hasil Adkins hunchin',
An' Mamie's raisin' hell.
The legend of D Ray White,
Will never die like a rebel yell.

It’s a masterpiece. I’m really surprised they haven’t done a follow up documentary

The thing I remember most is the boy being sad that his family is in jail and can't be there for his birthday.

I thought about this doc randomly over the weekend as well. Weird. Hadn't seen it in a decade at least.

I assumed it was the follow-up.

I've only ever seen The Dancing Outlaw.

"So I took that knife to her neck and said, 'If you wanna live to see tomorrow, you better start fryin'em aygs better than you been fryin'em. Ah'm sick and tired of eatin'em sloppy, slimy aygs.'"
