My problem with it is that whether it was a giant alien monster or Dr. Manhattan, nothing in human history would indicate to me that this would cause an end to the aggressive and violent sides of human nature. And you would think people would figure out pretty soon that there was no alien threat to band together against.

I think maybe Moore was on some good stuff when writing that plot.

The extra documentaries in The Ultimate Cut dvd are all really good and worth watching if you want more insight into this world.

Aggression and violence don't necessarily need to end. Just the threat of nuclear annihilation.

humanity had no chance of defeating Manhattan even if they had all teamed together. Seems kinda pointless to even try.

Kinda like trying to fight God? The point isn't to fight him. It's to fear him. Keep fricking up and I'll kill millions more and there's nothing you can do about it. I saw the plan as basically the start of religion.

Which makes the bit at the end a flaw because he would easily be able to see the journal in the future and stop it from being released.

I think you're making an assumption that it would matter that it was released.

It was a journal left anonymously, containing a story that could be perceived as farfetched. They needed something to print, so they printed it. No different than a story printed in the National Enquirer, it's read though not reputed. It can be retold, but it's not known as fact to the public...

If that was all that was necessary Manhattan could have blinked like Jeannie and turned all the fissionable material on Earth into salt.

True but none of this was Manhattan's plan.

Except he didn't give a shite about Earth. He was over it and was starting a new world.

bullshite. He is the one that becomes the plan in the movie. Once again, all your arguments keep pointing to the flaws in the movie.

Did he not specifically say he didn't care about Earth and he only cared about Mars? Pretty sure he tells the chick that gets banged in every movie she's in that when they were on Mars.

It wasn't his plan though. Ozy was just using him.

He has nothing to do with the plan.

And yes, he could see at any point in time, but only what he specifically witnesses. According to the story, he couldn't see the accident because of the energy that was used to cause it. It blocked out his view of that point.

You could argue that he could have figured it out after, but after the incident, he left earth and stopped caring about it.

Yes, there are plot holes, but it's a freaking comic book movie.

If Ozimndias was so smart and could manipulate Manhattan or convince him it was worth doing away with the threat of nuclear war, seems like there were much preferable ways of accomplishing that.

I think marvel did something similar with Squadron Supreme which actually involved taking over governance of the world to some extent. That seems to have been bit more logical.

Movie was just a sign of it's times I guess.

I thought the movie was brilliant, but its one of those rare movies where I completely understand if people reviled it

When comic book movies work, they work for the spectacle, not the logic.
