The Town vs Heat ...

Who you got?
I used to lean towards Heat .... I mean, all star cast, Pacino, DeNiro, Kilmer, et al.
But damn, The Town ... the older I get the more I like it. Affleck, Jon Hamm, Blake Lively, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Hall, Pete Postlewaite, et al. And I like the story better.
Maybe I'm just letting my Irish bias my outlook, plus it's St Patty's and all.

Heat is bigger, more unique, more violent.
The Town is tighter, more intense, and has a better anti-hero at the forefront.
Performances are a wash, both feature really outstanding sets.
For me, depends on what I'm in the mood for.

Heat, but The Town is damn good

Comparing Heat and peak Michael Mann to the Town is like comparing Good Morning Vietnam to Apocalypse Now...they're simply in different leagues, even though the subject matter and genre may be the same.
Heat is an epic, sweeping crime story combined with a level of filmmaking not scene before, or really even since. Remember, Nolan based the feel and scope of Dark Knight off of HEAT!
It has the best shootout ever filmed, it has the two greatest actors of a generation for the first time ever on screen together, and it has a scope and authenticity that makes it timeless.
He Town is very fine picture, in fact I think it's Afflecks best directing effort and Renner is incredible....but as a whole, it's nowhere on the same level as Heat....which is probably the greatest crime film ever

I sorta hate complimenting Ben Affleck but The Town is a hell of a movie.

Hyberbolic statements are the best thing ever... But for Heat, it's actually true...

I respectfully disagree.
Shootout scene at Fenway is excellent and actually more realistic.
Shootout scene with Renner in the middle of the street is fricking lit.
Similar scenes when Hall waves-off Afflect with her Sunshine Day comment and when Ashley Judd waves off Kilmer.
I like Hamm's character better than Pacino's.
Affleck's character was immensely more likeable than was DeNiro's.
Blake Lively sorta stole the show in The Town in her scenes.
Anyways, just mho.

Heat shootout scene was actually basically recreated IRL with the North Hollywood shootout.
At 9:17 am, Larry Phillips Jr. and Emil Matasareanu entered and robbed the North Hollywood Bank of America branch. Phillips and Matasareanu were confronted by LAPD officers when they exited the bank and a shootout between the officers and robbers ensued. The two robbers attempted to flee the scene, Phillips on foot and Matasareanu in their getaway vehicle, while continuing to engage the officers.
The shootout continued onto a residential street adjacent to the bank until Phillips was mortally wounded, including a self-inflicted gunshot wound; Matasareanu was incapacitated by officers three blocks away, and subsequently bled to death before the arrival of medics more than an hour later.
An officer was heard on the LAPD police frequency approximately 10-15 minutes into the shootout, warning other officers that they should "not stop [the getaway vehicle], they've got automatic weapons, there's nothing we have that can stop them."
Due to the large number of injuries, rounds fired, weapons used, and overall length of the shootout, it is regarded as one of the longest and bloodiest events in American police history. Both men had fired approximately 1,100 rounds,[vague] while approximately 650 rounds were fired by police. Another estimate is that a total of nearly 2,000 rounds were fired.

I love both. Probably lean slightly towards Heat, but it's close. Jeremy Renner is freaking awesome in the Town.

Isn't the Town pretty much a ripoff of Heat?
A good one mind you, but this is like asking who do you like better Led Zeppelin or the Led Zeppelin tribute band.

Heat and that shootout is fantastic.
