It's intended to be repulsive.
Everything about this movie is painted in bold colors and over the top.
We enjoyed it. I think it has a few things to say, of course. But the Demi character did it to herself, at the end of the day.

It was (and may still be) on Mubi. We did the free trial to watch it.
Now it's on HBO Max where it shoudl find a much wider audience.e

I also watched last night. I wanted to enjoy it but it was just kinda...meh. Like most others, I was pretty enteratined and along for the ride but 1)it was way too long, 2) the end is just too off the rails. Some complaints:
-we're beat over the head that they are 1. One person/brain/soul/conscious/etc. It makes no sense that sue would continue to steal time from liz, since she KNOWS what the result is gonna be. Yes, I'm well aware that the talking point is "but that's what the substance does, it makes you yearn for just a liiiiitle bit more of the youth". But that's dumb. If these were 2 strangers I'd get it, but being that they're the same brain I don't really buy it
-With liz/sue, sue steps right in as liz's replacement doing what she loves and being a famous TV star. I get it. What about the male counterparts that took the substance? She sees the old dude in the diner that's also getting fricked by his younger self, but in that case the younger version...works in a hospital? LIke why would you go to all the hassle fo the substance just to go clock into a normal day job and make rounds and shite?
-I am NOT one of those "I need answers to every minor trivial little thing" kinda people, but even SOME kind of background on the substance might be neat. Who is the voice on the phone? Who is supplying the deliveries? Where did the substance come from? Who else is using it? What is the point???
-As to that last question, early on when demi is in the hospital the young doc says "she would make a good candidate". So right there i"m thinking ok there's some entity out there trying to get people on the substance for some type of gain. But then...nothing. Like, nobody actually profits or gets anything out of it. So wtf is the point of the substance anyway? Why try to recruit people onto it if there is zero benefit to the supplier?

I just thought of one more major gripe this morning. I fully understand that as time goes on, sue and liz are kind of adversarial towards each other despite us repeatedly beat over the head that they are in fact 1 person. But I'm confused at the talk show interview wtih sue. She's point blank asked if she ever watched elisabeth sparkle or what she thinks about her. Even knowing that sue is kinda put out that liz is junking up theri house, what a PERFECT opportunity here. Sue easily could have said something like "she was such an inspriation to me, she was so beautiful and graceful and a timeless icon and it's what made me want to get this gig in the first place yadda yadda". I mean it was right there on a silver platter to get Liz's name back in the news even if only for a minute but to bring some positivity back to her name. And instead she shite on her, basically called her old, and dismissed her entirely. Like WTF??

Because Sue is young Liz, and per Liz's decisions, she would have never aged. It is her resenting getting old. Diabolically fighting age.

What’s up with the new years eve show with topless women with children in the audience?

I've intermittently started and stopped the movie multiple times - probably 70% through with it. Kind of cool early 2000s stylized Cyberpunk Black Mirror vibes.
The Quaid stuff was completely grossed out by - if the production wanted to make people cringe they succeeded masterfully
