The stupidest things about new Salem's Lot

Besides the terrible character development was the fact that they want us to believe that not only is there more than one black family living in rural small town Maine in the 70s but that the town's doctor is a black female lol.
What are the statistical odds of this? I feel like having vampires is more likely.
The movie just sucked all the way around. Only good thing about it was getting to hear Sun Down several times.

Ah, yes but you're referring to 1970 1970. The show takes place in 2024 1970. Many black female doctors back in 2024 1970.

Per chatgpt which I'm surprised even answered and didn't say some bullshite about it being insensitive.
It would not be unreasonable to estimate that the odds were significantly less than 1 in 10,000, if not lower, when factoring in the small number of Black female physicians nationally, their concentration in urban areas, and the general demographics of rural Maine at the time.
Salem's Lot is one of my favorite King books. It's soooo good. This is sooo bad.
Hadn't seen the original 70s mini series in a long time. It's also on Max.
It's not great, but comparatively it's an Oscar Winner.
I think the hardest part of the old version is the Ben Mears character looks 50 even though he's in his 30s. People in the 70s just looked old.
Bonnie Bedilia is hot though.

I would have to say that the statistical probability for having a black female doctor in 1970s Maine, is probably better than, say...HAVING F******G VAMPIRES in the same town.

Not by much

Maine is just about the whitest state in the union. Blacks make up 1.2% of the total population. Im assuming in the 70s it was even less, under 1%. So.....yeah.

In 1975 (the year the 2024 movie is set in) it was less than 1%. There were only a few hundred black female doctors nationwide in the mid-70s. This according to ChatGPT.
In other words, this is Hollywood filling their diversity quota.

He literally made this same exact joke in the same post. I award you one downvote.

I went to Maine in November 2023. I did not see a single black person outside of about 5 in Portland.
There and New Hampshire were complete devoid of black people.
Portsmouth and Manchester were awash in BLM signs for people that didn’t live there.

This should've been more of a mini series. It would've been much easier to flesh out the characters and slow down the story to get more details. And this is coming from someone who has never read the book or seen the previous movies.
Getting to hear Sundown several times was awesome though.

So I’m watching it and about 2/3 of the way in, oh, here’s Alfred Woodard, she’s one of the main characters.????
Then a little later, she’s gone. WTH?
It was weird.

I went in with low expectations (girlfriend wanted to watch). It was ok not bad, but not great. Never read book or watched the original either.

I was pretty disappointed, I love horror movies and wish someone would make a good one. They are few and far between these days.
