Haven't seen the show fully since 2015, so my listing is from memory. A rewatch might change things but:

2
5
6B
1
3
4
6A

Yeah why don’t you rewatch and then try this thread again?

I just remember what an awful season 4 was. I thought 1, 2, and 5 were great.

There are no bad seasons. But 1 is like a totally different show than 6b. Well lack of vivid colors and the dark humor. My favorite is 2, 5, or 6B

2 and 5 are my favorites with 3 and 6B very close behind. I watch random episodes from time to time and always find myself going back to these seasons.

This. I started a rewatch of season 1 and it was crazy how different the early episodes were from the later seasons.

I recall the show taking a darker turn starting in Season 4. Even the cinematography gets darker and more shadowy in seasons 4-6 compared to the more lightly lit seasons 1-3.

4 sucked to sit through each week but had a hell of a payoff in the season finale.

I agree on 1, 2, 5.

6A killed my interest in finishing off the show so I haven’t seen 6B.

Yeah that had to be on purpose. Even though David Chase said in that talking sopranos interview that he seems to be the only person who did not think Tony got "darker" as the series progressed, rather he arguably got more enlightened. I definitely don't see it like that. I mean he was exposed to enlightenment in a sense but I've always thought he got darker and lost his soul bit by bit, as was evidenced by the seasons literally getting darker and darker cinematically. Also, I think they had to shoot some summer shots in winter around the pool party episode season so it ends up looking bleak.

shite man, 6B is pretty good. Starts slow, but the last 5 episodes are amazing.

It’s been about a year since my last rewatch. I’ve also rewatched Mad Men so it’s not fresh on my mind, but I’d go:

1
2
5
6B
3
4
6A

I started watching the Sopranos during its last season (6A and B) and caught up in chronological order later. Like it was said, Season 1 is so different from the later seasons. And I think it’s a bit dated, especially if you’ve watched it recently. Season 2 was sort of a transition, and Season 3 IMO is when it starts getting darker.

Season 3
Season 2
Season 5
Season 6B
Season 4
Season 6A
Season 1

Seasons 4 and 6A had some inconsequential storylines and it felt Chase was just filling time.

I hate how much darker the show gets starting in season 4 (although it still has the best joke on the show when Patsy namedrops Ralph Bunche).
