I've assumed that between Sorkin and the subject matter, this was going to lean heavy on a heavy handed "misinformation" (AKA, RW bad, Sorkin blaming FB for Jan 6) and add some more generalized "it harms young girls" thing. Rather than the broader, Jonathan Haidt "social media has fundamentally rewired a generation's brains and it's going to have untold and probably really bad impacts on the future" thing. The latter, of course, is far more meaningful and interesting than elections or vaccine denial, albeit harder to tell.
I don't know that much about the actual content of the files, so I'm sure it's a limiting factor.

Man that Radiohead cover by the choir for one of the first “Social Network” teasers was amazing.
This kinda sucked.
This kinda sucked.

I don’t love the whistle blower/reporter duo protagonist trope. It’s really worn out.

quote:Is it a trope if it’s literally based on real events and includes the whistle blower/reported duo? And I’m not saying they don’t take liberties, but The Insider, Snowden, etc. are based from real life events with that character dynamic.

The only reason this movie is being made is to pervert recent history. We know who strong armed these companies into weaponizing their platforms but this movie is not only going to undo that, it will invert reality.

This one is going to be incredibly political I fear.

Buddy, it’s a Aaron Sorkin movie

What was incredibly political about the first one?

I mean It’s a pretty direct commentary on the evolution of capitalism in the internet age and the flawed tech bros that rose from it.
Fincher put a lot more craft so the message is a lot more subtle and read through character development rather than dialogue, but this is both written and directed by Sorkin. This is going to be dripping with politics. That’s his whole thing. You’re wondering if there’s going to be any pasta at Olive Garden

The first one wasn’t dripping with politics. You basically admit that

Yeah if you read the next sentence it explains why this one is different. There’s no David Fincher filter

I guess I wasn't smart enough for Sorkin to see it. I thought it was just a commentary on an a-hole who became a billionaire before the age of 25.
