Enjoyed it a decent amount. Pretty good as a suspenseful movie and great at Blake Lively in a bikini movie.

My only complaint was that there is no way that shark would have persisted that long at eating Blake Lively.

Glad I saw it instead of ID4WillSmithPushinghissonasanactoronus.

To quote the "How Did This Get Made?" podcast I listened to today, "has there ever been a good shark movie besides the one?"

Jaws is a masterpiece. However I put shark movies in the same category as pizza and sex. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.

Deep blue sea is the only one (other than sharknado of course) I can think of.

ETA: I saw a full preview for Swiss army man for the first time at shallows.

Holy.

Hell.

Saw it tonight. I really enjoyed it. It did what it was supposed to do and did it well. Not Oscar material but a fun, suspenseful shark attack movie with a hot babe in a bikini as an added bonus. You could do worse for a summer popcorn flick.

I googled this and was surprised at how few theater shark movies out there. Jaws 1-whatever, deep blue sea, open water, shark night, and I thought, red water( apparently a TNT movie. Didn't know that, but I guess that explains why I saw on tv in college.

Every other shark movie is a straight to dvd or syfy. Hunh.

No argument.

Interestingly on the TexAgs entertainment board (movie/tv) there was a dude working on sharknado and dropped the plot months before it happened. He promised that it would be syfy's most famous movie and would be really well received. Everybody w laughed and was like "sure" but he promised that it was going to be a legit hit. He was 100% right hilariously.

He makes those movies for a living. Apparently syfy or whatever channel pays an upfront cost for the movie with a budget. They buy it no matter whether it's crap or decent upfront. So no matter whether the movie tanks or is well received, the director, actors, etc. have all received their money up front. Sharknado made no more money for anybody involved than shark vs crocosaurus. Getting the sequels was able to get a bit more profit for the crew.

Saw it today. Not bad at all and I can see why it's getting good reviews. It's a safe movie, all things considered. A very likable protagonist agains a killer shark and while the shark's behavior is certainly out of the realm of what a shark would normally do, it doesn't make the movie campy or eye-rolling.

Blake Lively was good in it and showed some decent range as an actress. Her body is an absolute 10 and the audience was rewarded with plenty of shots from behind.

For $10 and an hour and a half, one could do much worse, and this movie was worth my time and money. I think for many this will be a Red Box rental and I can agree with that. The big screen doesn't add much, other than a larger Blake Lively for all to enjoy.

I'd classify Open Water as more of a survival flick than a shark film. Sure, there are sharks in it, but they aren't the primary emphasis of the plot.

Saw this over the weekend, and it was pretty great for about 90% of the movie.

Spoilers...

But the last ten minutes or so (how she defeats the shark and gets saved) were pretty overly stupid.

I can get behind the shark holding her on the rock because it thinks she is prey. That's fine. But in the end when the shark basically starts thinking like a human and literally going insane trying to get her was just completely fricking stupid and ridiculous. I mean, it was literally jumping out of the water and munching on a giant metal buoy. Over and over.

And then the way she defeats the shark was even more stupid. She isn't anywhere near fast enough to move out of its way, and it isn't going to simply slam itself into the ground and impale itself on the reef/spikes. I'm all about suspension of belief for movies, but that was so overly idiotic that it basically ruined the movie for me. And up until the end, I thought it was a really good movie. But man those last few minutes just turned me off completely. It's like they couldn't figure out how to end it and just said "frick it."

ETA: I thought they did a really great job of making the actual attack scene pretty realistic looking.
