This is one of those litmus test movies that tell you a lot about a person. You don't have to think RT was the best movie ever, but when you thrown around words like "boring" and "unfunny" I can go ahead and put you in the "has no taste" bin with SG Geaux and the other morons.

I love the direction of Wes Anderson. I celebrate his whole catalog.
However, I could see people bored by this movie. I love it. I think he always uses music that accentuates the scenes perfectly. Love the green line bus scene with These Days in the background.
I love all of his movies including Bottle Rocket which many people are not fond of. Least fond of Darjeeling, but still appreciate it.
Took a while for Life Aquatic to grow on me but it did. Maybe I should have a doctor check that out.
Point being, that even though I am a huge fan, I can understand people hating all of his movies.
They are all character studies without explosions or plot twists. They aren't uproariously funny, even though I find them humorous.
They tend to give us a nice offbeat slice of life. I like my slice with a little ice cream on the side which Wes always seems to deliver perfectly for me.

I can definitely see how people can be completely turned off by Anderson's movies at first. It's the little things that you don't catch the first time that make them such good movies. Those expecting Gene Hackman to turn into a Transformer will be horribly disappointed. Personally, I enjoyed Life Aquatic and Rushmore the most but Tenenbaums is still a great movie.

I thought Life Aquatic was hilarious. I haven't seen Rushmore or Darjeeling. My cousin recommended Tenenbaums to me. I don't think I laughed at all during the whole movie. I was ready for it to end when it did.

I didn't like this movie. Thought it was boring. Didn't laugh once.
Gave it a chance, though.

On a side note... doesn't your avatar come from a scene in the movie? I know it does!
You are correct!!!

Self-absorbed, uninteresting chracters that I don't want to bother to study. I love character studies. But I just loathe his characters. I hated Woody Allen movies when they were still being made by Woody Allen, why would I watch knock off Woody Allen movies?

Not sure why you are attacking my post as I clearly said that I could understand other people not liking his films. I simply stated why I like them.

By the way, I disagree with the initial post. How exactly is it overrated?
IMDB has it rated at 7.6. That is just an average score. RottenTomatoes has it a little higher at 80%, but once again nothing spectacular.
Was nominated for 1 screenplay award but did not win.
I don't see people rending their garments at your negative comments. I also don't see people regularly professing their undying love for the movie.
Seems to me it is rated fine. Have no problem with people disliking it, but just don't consider this one overrated. I see and hear almost no hype whatsoever on this one.

i love royal tenenbaums, the characters in that movie are very entertaining. i also liked life aquatic, but after that the rest of wes andersons movies are lost on me. darjeeling was terrible imho, rushmore was ok and bottlerock was weird to me.

Please do not sully the good name of Arrested Development by mentioning it in the same sentence with The Royal Tenenbaums.

Well, Everyone knows Custer died in the little bighorn. What this book presupposes is... maybe he didn't.

It's that kind of humor that you either get or you don't. Very quirky. I loved it, but I can see how many people were like WTF?

I found the movie to be funny and endearing but my wife hated it.

Seems to be a good test of what kind of sense of humor you have. If you like dark, subtle, and clever humor, these movies might be for you. If you like more simple humor, you hate them. I think most are hilarious and I own all of them. I was not a big fan of Darjeerling. Rushmore and Royal are my favorites. The Eli Cash character is greatness.
