EXCLUSIVE: Here’s a really cool project that just got greenlit at DC Studios and Warner Bros Pictures Animation: Dynamic Duo.

It will mark the first joint project between DC Studios and the Bill Damaschke-led WBPA.

The 6th & Idaho movie scripted by Matthew Aldrich is being made by a new animation studio out of New Orleans named Swaybox and that studio’s husband-and-wife creators Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson. Mintz will direct this movie, which follows the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd aka the Robins.

Note the storyline here isn’t connected to Matt Reeves’ Batman and The Penguin canon.

Swaybox uses a technology known as “Momo animation,” which is a cross between CGI animation, practical elements of stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance. The result is long-form storytelling billed as visually breathtaking, dynamically expressive and more human.

DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran, Swaybox Studios’ Andersson and 6th and Idaho’s Reeves are producers on Dynamic Duo. Executive producers include Michael Uslan.

“I have wanted to make a film with Arthur and Swaybox for many years, and for that film to be Dynamic Duo, an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families, is a dream,” Reeves said.

This is the biggest problem that with DC movies, there's the Joker canon, a now fourth (?) Batman canon and now this DCU project that's not tied to any of it.

Agreed, but Gunn arrived after Reeves was already working on his movies. And Reeves has no interest in being involved in the new DCU.

That particular example of momo animation didn’t impress me..

Get the Spiderverse guys on it. That’s like printing money.

It’s not a problem if you have a brain

DC mainline movies will be presented as such. DC Elseworlds is everything else

So "MOMO Animation" is basically Pixar?

it’s good looking animation, but computer generated stop motion motion capture…. is CGI animation.
