I had totally forgotten about that PPV that ran long and cut off. I had ordered that one and was like WTF just happened when it just ended.

Halloween Havoc. Ordered it for my 12th birthday. Invited all my friends over. We were pretty sad when it randomly cut off. My Dad got a full refund the next day.

Very good documentary. I didn't realize the WCW had all of those internal issues until watching this.

If WCW would have just stuck to wrestling they would have been different from WWF

Especially with the roster they had. They had Eddie, Benoit, Jericho, Malenko, Mysterio, and all the Lucha Libre guys as well that they were flying in every week. Unfortunately, these guys were all held back by guys like Nash and Hogan who just wanted to keep their spots.

Honestly, I think pro wrestling is very interesting from a business perspective.

I was at Nitro in the GA Dome in July 98 when Goldberg beat Hollywood Hogan for the title. Still the best live event I've been too.

and make no mention at all of the year long Sting-Hogan build.

Agreed. That drove the numbers for that ratings high they were on. Me and my friends didnt watch because we wanted to see the nwo, we watched to see if Sting would appear and what he would do.

Man I miss the WCW. I went one time when the No Limit Soldiers and Limp Bizkit had a concert on Nitro. It was the shite when No Limit did Hootie Hoo and Bizkit did Rollin'. Got to see all my favorites except Goldberg.

HOOOOOLLLLLLLYYYYYY SHITE! LOOK WHAT I FOUND!!! Can't believe I was there!

Are you sure that was Limp Bizkit and not KISS?
And were you at Nitro there in the Superdome when this happened in early 97?

WCW had two downfalls in my opinion. One it was much more family friendly than the WWE. That may have caused the focus group (males 18-35) to lose interest. Two they ran the NWO story line to long. It got old and people lost interest. At that time WWE started to blow them out the water.

Almost every big star had complete creative control. They completely ruined the Hogan/Sting match at Starrcade 97 that they had been building up for well over a year. Then you had the "fingerpoke of doom" in early 99. The nail in the coffin was putting the WCW title on David Arquette.

That's because they had to give too much time to the stupid Hogan/Warrior "match."

We used to have Nitro parties and drive as far as Pensacola to see Nitro.
Was huge during the nWo days.

It really is. The amount of backstage politics involved in wrestling is enough to make all of Congress blush.

I'm glad that others have pointed out how a few wrestlers' contracts giving them creative control was a major issue in the WCW. IMO, it was the poison that brought the whole company down. They basically sold their souls to get Hulk Hogan and others. Pretty soon, the devil came calling.

There's also a book out that details WCW's downfall. LINK It's not perfect but it gives an idea of what was going on in the promotion.

Yeah I'm sure. Never seen KISS live, and I only went to a WCW event one time.

No, but I do remember watching this when it happened on TV

I got to see 2/3 of my favorites.

I was also at Nitro in the GA Dome on 1/4/99 - saw the fingerpoke and missed Foley's title win on Raw.

I was like 10 at the time and didn't have the internet. Legitimately thought WWF was invading WCW.

It's crazy how bad wrestling is today, compared to what it used to be.

Too much wrestling is what happened. It was on every other night. Then once a month pay per views. Storylines couldnt get developed, theyd jump to the next one too quick.
The merger, which was a lie also hurt. Vinces ego is unreal. Thought he would corner the market with that move. And then XFL, really?
