PP Strikes Again is far superior to Return.
Many more laughs, and doesn’t sag in the middle

Return of the Pink Panther & A Shot in the Dark are easily the best of the series. The original is up there too but has a different vibe since it focused a lot on David Niven & Robert Wagner, but it was clear as day that Peter Sellers outshined everyone on that movie and pretty much took that franchise out of Niven’s hands.

The "Pink Panther" series of movies has been running a lot this past week on the local cable channels. Seems every day, for the past several days a "Pink Panther" movies has been shown whether it stars Peter Sellers, Ted Wass or Steve Martin. but mostly the original Peter Sellers ones.
Speaking of Cato, I liked the episode where he turns Clouseau's house into a brothel and Clouseau returns to find it in operation and accused Cato of turning him home "Into a Chinese Nookie Factory". Then Cato tells him how much he's making and you see Clouseau's wheels turning.

I loved the Steve Martin pink panther movies. Wasn’t around for the originals.
Just watched this that scene is hilarious. Also why downvote I’m not saying the originals are not good I’ve just only seen the remakes. Lighten up people.

Do yourself a big favor. After you watch PO Strikes Again and Revenge of the PP you’ll never look at the Steve Martin reboots again.

A shot in the dark is the best pink panther movie

Well then that would account for your exaggerated hysteria over a mere blemish in the furniture."

2 pages in and no one has mentioned Herbert Lom who played Dreyfuss. His over-the-top characterization of someone losing it never gets old.
Edit: I must the earlier post. At any rate, Lom was a master.

Masterful comedic performances by him and Sellers in those movies.

One of my favorite scenes in the series is the climax of Shot in the Dark. Especially when it gets out of hand and Clouseau breaks the 4th wall in frustration.

I paid money to see Trail of the Pink Panther in a theater. Awful. Just awful. A fraud.

Yep ->
Sellers had died 18 months prior to production of that movie. They used footage from previous movies and deleted scenes with him in them.

Trail of the Pink Panther is a 1982 comedy film directed by Blake Edwards and starring Peter Sellers. It is the seventh film in The Pink Panther series, the first film in the series following Sellers' death and also the last in which he appeared as Inspector Clouseau. Sellers died 18 months before production began; his performance consists entirely of scenes from previous films (many of them deleted scenes). The newly shot material in the film stars Joanna Lumley as journalist Marie Jouveat searching for the missing Clouseau – and running afoul of the inspector's enemies who do not wish to see him return.
