Did you read my post? I said other than the huge animated movies like The Lion King and Toy Story it’s similarly appreciated.

Maybe I misread it, but even with this new reading of it, it’s not. It’s thought of as that random Ten Commandments animated movie by the public at large. Seriously look at that back cover in comparison to the actual tone of the film.

Oh yeah, we got wacky priests! No, the story is two brothers that love each other unconditionally fighting to the death. There are funny moments in the movie, but that is the tone of the film and what everything revolves around. It’s a very dramatic movie with comedic elements. If someone rents the movie with that back cover images and description, they’ll be dumbfounded with the movie presented to them.

No one talks about this movie anymore, and it should be. I think it would be if Disney released it with every part of the movie being the same.

TIL that the prince of Egypt ironically is banned in Egypt. Ramses is still burnt up about the Jews getting out.

Looking at the animated movies Disney produced in that era it’s less popular than Mulan and Pocahontas but I’d say it’s as popular or more than all the other ones made in that time period (1994-2000 is what I looked at)

Based on the list you shared, I would honestly say The Goofy Movie is more popular in the culture.

Hercules
Huntchback
Tarzan
Emperor's New Groove

Are all more popular by far.

I guess you could say it's on the level of popularity of A Bug's Life and James and the Giant Peach? Personally feel like these are forgotten great movies too.

One more movie from that time period that should have been a Disney movie but wasn’t: Anastasia. Great soundtrack, compelling story based on a true story, a Disney princess, lovable animal characters, feels authentic. It’s a Disney movie 100%, but was not made by Disney. Disney acquired it in the Fox purchase though and it’s on Disney+ in some other countries
