Pan's Labyrinth is perfect IMO. Pulp Fiction as well.

OML, great list. You and I have the same taste.

I agree with most of these on here. Just a couple that pop in my head for some reason that I haven't seen mentioned yet:

Amadeus
500 Days of Summer
Good Will Hunting
O, Brother Where Art Thou?
Garden State
Second Hand Lions
Stand by Me

Not all of these are particular favorites of mine, but they stand out in my mind as having done everything right for the movie.

I'm shy about it I think I've only given 90 movies 10/10.

I've rated 2200 movies on my RottenTomatoes account; I've given a 100% (10/10) to only 31 films.

Well your not as generous as I am that's for sure. I have 2500 movies rated on my IMDB account and 90(really it's 89 I rounded up) that I've given 10/10 probably twice as many that I've given 9/10.

But seriously, I'll throw The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly as well as Reservoir Dogs out there.

How do you get so precise? Most of my rankings are in the 6-7 range for average movies 8/10 for good movies and 9-10 for great ones/ones I like a whole lot.

I have a hard time telling the difference between a 4/10 or a 2/10. And really I don't see many outright bad movies anymore. Most of the bad movies I've seen were from when I was younger and not as selective in what I watched or movies I saw with other people that weren't my choosing.

I actually laughed during that movie, stupid as it may be.

Once Upon a Time in America, to me, is the perfect movie because it's essentially a celebration of American cinema. So many technical aspects about it are brilliant: the editing, non-linear narrative, visual images, characters, music, ambiguous ending, etc. Excellent film.

I have it rated 10/10. It's my favorite 80s movie as well as my favorite of Leone's

Agreed.

It's a shame that it wasn't until years later, after Leone's death, that the movie was presented in its intended form.

Yeah the first time I saw it when I was young was the American theatrical 90 minute heavily edited linear release.

And I liked but it wasn't till I saw the 4 hours version that I was blown away. I read Leone shot up to 8-10 hours I sure wish somebody would find that footage.

I bet it was confusing as hell. Had to be with all of the transitions not correlating with the preceding cuts. I'm sure it would have been much more successful and well-known if WB had just originally gone with the 4 hour cut. You're still pretty lucky for seeing it in theaters back then.

It would be amazing if the footage that was left out will be released some day, preferably on a new DVD edition. Would be nice to have a copy of the movie with more features than just a Richard Schickel commentary.

I didn't see it the theater I was only 5 years old when it came out so I wouldn't have known what was going on. First time I saw it was in the early 90s on VHS.

Oh I see, sorry about that. I didn't even know if they had released that version on video but it's still cool that you got to watch it. I was too young back then and didn't end up seeing it until I was a teen.
