The original Friday the 13th is NOT the best movie of the franchise

Has great gore don’t get me wrong BUT the movie is boring as shite and moves at a snails pace until Mrs. Voorhees shows up. The last 20 mins and ending are iconic 100%, but the first hour is so damn dull. There are padded out scenes where nothing happens like a 5 minute sequence of the guys killing a snake.
Part II is the superior version of the first movie. And quite frankly parts 3, 4, 5, and 6 are either better movies or more entertaining.

I agree 100%. Part 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7 are definitely better.

II and IV go back and fourth between my favorites. I always loved 5 because of how sleazy and trashy it is.

Definitely, it totally depends what you're in the mood for.
I think IV is the best "Friday the 13th" movie, but there are others that can be more fun (e.g., I think JTM and X are hilarious, but they're certainly not "good" movies
) I remember Remake getting a lot of hate when it first came out but now it seems the general consensus is that it's a pretty good installment.

This my favorite franchise of all time & I think this is the only logical take to have. I rewatched the entire thing last year bc RLM did the same & I thought 3, 5, & Jason X were by far the best for different reasons.
I used to love Friday the 13th the tv series as well, but even without watching it again I'm sure it does not hold up in 2024.
ETA: I just looked up the series for the first time in my life & it has overwhelmingly positive reviews. I might try to find it & watch it again.

Growing up I always thought this was the best with the best set up and atmosphere.
I didn't know until my adulthood on the Internet that it was largely hated.
I do think I always rated the franchise on pure horror and most fans like the 80s campiness and comedy, so it made sense.
