It still pisses me off how unimaginative Lucas was with the Jedi in the prequels. Would the Jesus headquarters really be a massive building in the middle of a giant city? Sure maybe having an outpost there so they can communicate with the Chancellor and Senators, but headquarters?
We had a thread early this week about redoing the prequels and my number one rule if I were commissioned to write it would to have the entire Jedi Order operating in secret. There would be some big characters that had direct knowledge or evidence that the Jedi truly existed but for the majority of the Galaxy, they would be the stuff or religion, folklore, and/or myth.

To be fair, Obi Wan does say that the Jedi were guardians of the Republic. Also Anakin and Obi Wan were apparently very well known throughout the Galaxy for what they did during the Clone Wars. Yes I'd have them be more mysterious to the general population, but they would at least take suggestions from the Chancellor and Senators on what needs to be done to protect the peace. As you've said before, there are about ten thousand Jedi in a Galactic population of 900 trillion beings, and the chances of you coming across one are slim.

That doesn't mean they have to operate in the open

All of that was established in the prequels. Redoing them allows you to wipe everything away and start with only the OT as cannon.

Here's why Vader wasn't buying any of Leia's nonsense:

I thought it was mentioned in the prequels..... Considering obi Wan trained anakin
If you read the sentence before I made that comment, I said non-Jedi. You didn't hear non-Jedi talk about the force in the prequels.

Wait what?
Cranston's screen time in Edwards' other film, Godzilla.

Just watched it. As a Star Wars fan from the beginning of the franchise, it exceeded my expectations.
The last 5 minutes left me unable to get up out of my chair for a few minutes. Vader's arse kicking almost made me pass out. I've waited since I was 5 years old to see that.
As far as Tarkin, I thought he was a little off but as a test, I asked my wife and she didn't realize he was CGI so I guess he was better than I thought.

I was so in awe by Tarkin I didn't hear a word that was said during his scenes. It was better than the Paul Walker CGI and young Arnold in Terminator. Loved the A New Hope footage of the X-Wing pilots. I left the theater wipping tears from my face hoping no one would see.

Diego Luna was boring and given the similar time and roles Oscaar Issac did a far better job with Poe Dameron

I'm one of the few who didn't like the cantina characters cameo. The universe is already small enough having Anakin create 3PO and the like.

My bad.

Not sure if mentioned. .
But do you think the "stardust" nickname was a nod to the spaceman himself David bowie?

Same here. I'm zero percent the type to get choked up over a movie but the last 5 minutes or so when it was tying into ANH so beautifully it just overwhelmed me.
Keep in mind I'm saying that as a 44 year old man. I'm the prime age for a Star Wars fan as it was my entire childhood with the OT spanning from age 5 to 11 for me. It was a nostalgia sledgehammer for me even more than TFA.

The score was better than TFA but I was disappointed it didn't have the typically Giachino emotional moments; Letting Go in Super 8, opening of Up, Life and Death, Oceanic 6 theme in Lost).
Also, Saw is going to be in Rebels.

I agree, Oscar Isaac was underused in TFA. There was nothing great about that character.

I expect that he'll be used much more in the sequel. Guessing he and Finn are going to go off and do something while Rey and Kylo are being trained by their masters.

I have a question.
There was a book released a few weeks ago called Catalyst that lays down the back story for Rogue One. I wasn't able to finish it before seeing the movie today but read enough.
My question is for people that saw the movie and have no idea about the book:
What impression did you come away with from just the movie regarding the relationship between Galen Erso and Krennic? Think about your answer before scrolling.
They were basically college buddies and had a long, complicated history over their lives as sometimes close friends but always intertwined.
Did the movie alone establish that?

That they were once coworkers, and when Jyn's father realized what the Empire was up to, he fled and Krennic tracked him down. They clearly knew each other well.
Edit: pretty much on the money. So I'd say the film roughly established that.

Yeah. .
You could see that they were old friends that separated with the true intentions of the empire.
When he went to the crystal planet he didn't want to believe his old friend sent the pilot with the information

Good deal. You can't unknow something so I was curious how their relationship came across to just the movie watchers.
I haven't even finished the book so I'm not even sure how things completely play out going into the opening scenes of the movie.
