Galen Erso is the only guy in the galaxy that can possibly crack the nut of using Kyber crystals to power the Death Star's laser, but he would never intentionally do that. His research was to use Kyber crystals for energy production.
Krennic knows that getting his buddy to work on the Death Star's laser will punch his ticket to the top of the Empire's power structure and he ends up tricking Erso into thinking he is doing Kyber crystal work for energy application while he is actually advancing the Death Star weapon.
I'm assuming Erso figures that out and bails into hiding and that brings us to the opening scene of the movie.

What impression did you come away with from just the movie regarding the relationship between Galen Erso and Krennic? Think about your answer before scrolling.

Saw this on another site.
"The ending of Rogue One certainly ramps up Princess Leia's sass levels in ANH. It's like she's just been pulled over by the cops for speeding but she feigns not realising just how fast she was going."

Speeding. Try drunk driving, plowing down a few cops, and then vomiting all over the boots of the cop who takes her in, all while telling him she is perfectly sober and on her way to babysit her niece.

There was a real missed opportunity relating to the "I don't look up to see the Imperial flags". Saw should have said well look up now with the Death Star in orbit.

Exactly. That's why I posted the pic of the galactic map, a page or so ago. Tatooine is practically next door to Scarif, but literally on the other side of the galaxy from Alderaan.
Upon ANH rewatch today, there are 3 empty chairs in the DS boardroom: one on each side of Tarkin, for Krennic and Vader (assuming he sits) and one on the ther side, presumably for Jalen Erso.

Has Cushing's family commented on his appearance? I wonder if his estate had to give permission. I hope this means we get ghost Alec Guinness in Episode 8.

Ehh, I doubt Vader really sits in on these meetings. He is just told what he needs to know by Palpatine and Tarkin. Vader is simply the Emperor's enforcer, and if the plans weren't stolen, I doubt he would have been in that meeting. I doubt he had been in any meeting with those commanders before (save for Tarkin), or else he wouldn't have dare talk back to Vader. The guy Vader choked simply thought he was the Emperor's thug and probably didn't believe in his true powers. Sure he got more power once Tarkin died, but he didn't have that much until then.

The folks at Collider were taking about it. Their take was that it was clear that Disney spent a lot of time sewing Rogue One into A New Hope. There are so many little details that fit perfectly with a film that was released forty years ago.
The further out I get from seeing it, the better Rogue One gets. I'm going to see it again this week.

Just got out of it. Everyone dying at the end was perfect. It's what needed to happen especially with the leader of the Rebellion saying in A New Hope "A lot of good people died getting us this information".
No sequel in any way shape or form is needed to this.

Disagree. We need to know if the Rebellion is able to capitalize on stealing the Death Star plans!
Actually though, having experienced Rogue One, it really brings the ANH opening crawl to life. I had tons of images of the Battle of Scarif come to mind as I was reading it, this afternoon. That's a "Mission Accomplished" for Edwards & company, in my book.

Rumor has it that Obi Wan is in Ep 8.

Apparently they are moving away from a CGI Snoke. He will be a giant puppet in the sequel according to Making Star Wars.

I think the ppl that are complaining in general about this movie aren't looking at the big picture. This is a great standalone movie. Most complaints I've seen are lack of character development.
And I still teared up when Jyn and Cassian dies. Because IMO there was just enough development to give some depth without wasting half of the movie on development knowing they all die.
The subtle nods nods to the series as a whole were great. It fits well with the series as well and really brings ANH to another level.
Enjoyed it. As did my parents and SO.

I encourage it. Star wars puppetry was great for the films. Being snoke was in hologram form in the film I'll not hold it against them.
Maybe he is a dead member of the sith. In his ghost true face form lol.
